Is there any way I can change the outgoing information of an e-mail so it appears like it was sent several hours earlier?

Thanks.

The only way I can think of doing that is if you set the clock back on the outgoing mailserver. Even then, it might not work.

There is one method but it requires access to a DeLorean fitted with a flux capacitor.

Can you have cyborg robots?

I thought the two were mutually exclusive.

If you change the time on your computer it may work, even if that's not the mailserver. Haven't you ever got mail from someone whose system clock was off? It sorts incorrectly in your email program.

Change the time on your computer clock and try sending an email to yourself to test it. (If someone wanted to examine all the headers though, the ruse would be revealed).

This would only work if I was using something like Outlook Express right?

Yeah, the date and time gets stamped by your email client when you send, AFAIK.

Is this "examining the headers" thing something someone might casually do.. or is it more involved?

Thunderbird = View Menu > Headers > All

And that's it.

It's not that difficult really.

You certainly can't breed robots, cyborg robots or not.

I don't think it's something most people would casually do, unless they had some reason. Sometimes I look at the X-Mailer header to see what client the sender is using. But if your receipient is suspicious enough to go looking at the time stamps on the headers, you could still say you sent it when you sent it and the delay must have been on the ISP's part.

this brings me to a question of my own...
all those shit emails i get that appear to be sent from tomorrow or the next day just so they can appear first in my inbox... if i replied to those, would they get them in the future? or right now? if they got them now, it would be like they never sent them. it would be like i was reading the mind of the junk mail. does this, in turn, make me junk mail?

you might also try changing your email account's profile. Some of them include timezones, change your time zone and effectively change the mail server's time : )

With a fancy car and one of these, there is nothing you can't accomplish.
