Doing the interview with Veronica Monet was the first time I've ever talked with a professional escort that didn't end up costing me $300. Monet is a semi-retired escort that has just written the book, Sex Secrets of Escorts. It details all the things men want that she has gleaned from her 15 years of servicing men. While some may look down on the idea of women making money from having sex, Monet is a bit different. She's written a number of books, is a certified graduate of San Francisco Sex Information's...

fascinating story .. it is bizarre that people don't have the choice to pay for sex in a free society ... makes me think of Xaviera Hollander's book "The Happy Hooker" which I love ... Monet's book sounds like great reading ....

In 15 years of working as an escort, I never met two men who wanted the same thing.

First off it is sad that we have gone to the stage of free sex is ok in the sixties to paying for sex is ok in 2000. Why can't anyone see a problem with this and why is it that we continue to equate exploiting women's sexuality and for that matter human sexuality with ultimate freedom.
Sex for all the wrong fucked up reasons is what it really seems to be about.
If we say it is for pure pleasure I could respect that but for money sick people really sick. eeek

I do my job because it pays me. I don't make anyone's day by doing my job. I'd say that escorts are damned underappreciated.

Paying for sex, or sex for 'the wrong reasons' is wrong, but you'll pay a membership fee to look at a site full of the naked bodies of women you don't know? Where do you draw the line?

I think the point Monet made very well is that it's a sign of how women's sexualities have been sanctioned and controlled in the past and still are, if we can't accept a woman having sex unless it's in a certain kind of relationship.

Great interview, I will be buying this book for sure. The sex industry has always fascinated me and I believe the way she thinks about it, and feminism, is spot on.

I have not studied the NZ system or Holland that well but I do know in Australia it depends on the state with it being legal in some and not in others. But in places like NSW and ACT by law safe sex has to be practiced at all times and the last time I checked those working in brothels had to have helth checks which is a fair call really more so for the sake of those working then clinets. Other then that is like any other job. I see no problem with prostituion and I am an avid supporter legalisation and allowing to to happen. It helps a lot of lonely and shy men for companionship even for a short time. A friend of mine who works as one has often had men pay for several hrs and all they did was just lie there and hold each other no nudity or sex just the companioship.

I feel the things like porn and prostituion being open empower women not degrade them. These women take control of their lives and do what they want. I take my hat of to them. Why should men be able to do what they want and not women and the same men still expect it from women just not for them to be happy, open and enjoying themselves.

Ladies heres to you and takeing it to them men.

This is a really interesting interview and I respect Monet for the power that she has in shaping her own destiny...however, I do disagree on one point that she made.....If a woman wants to start baking and selling Mrs. Fields cookies, she has to uphold certain kitchen health and safety standards as regulated by her local government and even sometimes beyond that. I think that if you are running a business where someone could potentially get an STD (or for the Mrs. Fields baker, salmonella poisoning) you should certainly have to get monthly health checks and if your employees (or whores, or work environment) is/are not 100% free of any health concerns/STD's, those who are carriers of anything should not be allowed to work (I am not, however for big fines- sooo unfair no matter the business!). I do think it's cool how in NZ, though they only have to pay taxes like any other small business- that is fair.
