Anyone who is into punk/mod/ska etc. should read Subculture: The Meaning of Style by Dick Hebdige. It is a fantastic reference book, as it's a good chronological account of the evolution of subcultures, and also excellent for anyone into semiotics.

I'd also recommend Dance of Days for anybody who is into Minor Threat, Bad Brains, and the other DC based hardcore bands.

Any other required reading you'd like to mention?

I have that. And Nick Kent's "The Dark Stuff" and Legs McNeill's "Please Kill Me".

I'd also recommend Greil Marcus' "In the Fascist Bathroom" and Lester Bangs' Something and Carbeurator Dung. I can't remember the title exactly, but it's an excellent collection.

R.E. Howard's Conan is pretty much the be all end all for the 'Violence as a viable method of conflict resolution' crowd.

I know he's a one trick pony....but I still giggle & clap for the trick.

Contortionists Handbook was good.

I love Chuck. I don't care what anyone says.

He has a really interesting life story, too.
