Here in Las Vegas it's perfectly legal to drink just about anywhere. Except maybe near a school and (of all things) you can't drink too close to a liquor store. They don't want you pouring 'em down in the parking lot I guess. No open container law here.

What's more, the bars never stop serving. Which sometimes means the bartender gets the fun task of keeping people awake.

What is the point in going to the fucking pub if you can't get drunk? Seriously.

the idea of getting arrested for walking home drunk is a bad one.

What would you rather i do, drive?

No, they just want to arrest you for getting drunk anywhere but a private residence I guess.

Give it time. Soon drinking at home will be outlawed as well.

I dont know why they never tried outlawing booze before. It sounds like such a good idea.

just point me in the direction of the nearest speakeasy.

Am I a bad person because my first thought was 'man I sure hope they're uniformed, otherwise some poor guy's winding up in a cell with a shitload of broken ribs for trying to take on a cop who told him it was time to put the bottle down.'

Yeah the very first thing I thought of was how likely I would be to glass someone walking up to me in a bar and telling me I was under arrest for being drunk. Even more likely to do so if I were, y'know, actually drunk.

Wow.
That's a whole lotta bullshit.

That really depends on how you look at it. This storie doesn't give any details about how they are going about arresting these so called offenders or what criteria they are using to judge who to arrest in that kind of situation.

If they are watching and waiting for them to leave the bar while intoxicated and then nabbing them once outside the bar or shortly there after then I can completely understand and agree with the logic of thier thought.

However, if they are making arrests inside the bar while people are still drinking and minding thier own business then I'd have to disagree.

Naturally if someone was causing problems or doing something totally and completely stupid, by all means remove them from harm and the harm of others.

I like to go out and get a few drinks but I usually hang out at the bar until I sober up enough to go home. It takes planning and control to do such a thing and most people don't. So as a public service to keep the general community safe I can completely understand and agree for the need of actions like this.

No. If I get arrested because I tried to walk home drunk, that is the definition of bullshit. If someone is hammered, but not causing anyone any trouble, they should be left the hell alone.

Actually walking home while drunk can be considered 'public intoxication' as well and they can legally arrest you for that. Take a cab, keep yourself out of the public, and don't cause any trouble. Because by walking home you could say.. 'speak a little too loudly' and also be fined with 'disturbing the peace' or you may unknowingly pop off a little while in your drunken state and complain that you were just walking home which is just a few blocks away and get 'resisting arrest' added on just for kicks.

Again, this is where this article fails by not mentioning the criteria, methods, and particulars concerning this whole event.

The police are charged with public safety. This means to keep the entire community safe, which includes you, whether or not you wish for thier protection and by arresting people for 'public intoxication' it reduces the over all risks of persons being injured and/or killed due to the use of alcohol.

I agree with the concept of this article though I can't say anything concerning the methods used by the police in Texas because that was not presented.

Basically, if you are drunk;
Stay out of the streets,
stay out of the drivers seat,
stay off the sidewalks,
don't go out into public where you or others could be injured by your drunken presence,
and if you are a pissy angry drunk who gets into fights - DON'T DRINK AT ALL! Get some fuckin help for your problems.. all of them.

I know that.
That's why I said it is bullshit.
If I am drunk, AND in public, AND not bothering anyone, there is no harm to anyone, and I should be left alone. But if a cop in a lousy mood sees me stumbling, he can arrest me. Smells like freedom. Oh, no it smells like some kind of shit. Perhaps it is bullshit.

Why not have "valet parking" (at least parking where your keys are confiscated upon parking, and not let you back in until you've passed a breathalyzer? Just spitballing here. I live in one of those liberal hippie east coast cities with public transit. That closes at midnight. You learn to account cabfare into the amount of money you can spend at the bar. No biggie.

This was on Coundown last night. there was a camera crew there with them to report on the story.

People were being arrested IN the bar. In a hotel. About 10 of them. In THE HOTEL IN WHICH THEY WERE STAYING! surreal

Even if you go out for the night drinking and have a designated driver (or other transportation arranged), you can get arrested.

The bartender was also arrested.
