ooh man, someone posted pics of oregon trail, the exact version we had when I was in school. I wish I could play that game again. That game was a major highlight of elementary school.
Some games could make a good movie. But that doesnt mean we should bother. Zelda, prince of persia, Ninja Gaiden and Halo. Maybe. Adventure games, platformers and RPG/MMORPG's have the best potential for having a strong plot and interesting characters. FPS's not so much. Great for action/sci-fi but we saw what happened with DOOM.
NO RACING GAMES! The world does not need another Fast and the Furious.
But in general video games and movies should not cross over. Mario Bro's: sucked. DOOM: sucked Final Fantasy: the spirits within: sucked.
Ever play a game based on a show or movie? Most dont go over well.
Problem is the fans will never be happy. But they will go see it anyway and thats why they make it. The movie or game crossover could suck but they make it anyway because they know the fans will go (same thing with comic books). Normal people not into games wont get it. But they go see it anyway thanks to the hype.
Biggest problem. Many games have a story that takes as many as 6 hours for the story to pan out. So you either bastardize the story or make some shitty 3 part series.
Dude... Totaly would be going for Ecco the dolphin.
But I could stand to see a version of Twisted Metal: Black... rendered into a sort of movie like state... But only if someone other than Paul Anderson, or Andrzej Bartkowaik. (resident evil and doom directors)

Many books take as long or longer. It's never stopped anyone from adapting them. (though the quality level, as ever, varies.).
Most of the video game movies out there suck because they don't have that much to do with the original source material and/or talentless hacks made them. DOOM, ...well, I sort of enjoyed it. And a couple of decisions I understand (For example, it would be hard to have a movie with only one character on screen most of the time, so the squad of marines was introduced.). But the storyline had almost fuck-all to do with DOOM's (admittedly minimal) story. The movie would have been far better with portals to hell and more action.
Likewise, Final Fantasy. A large part of the failure of that movie is that it threw up some bullshit story that wasn't remotely interesting. If it had been actually connected to one of the games, (like Advent Children), it would have worked much better. I won't say it sucked even so. Square's CGI is phenomenally lovely and worth watching all on its own.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, with the exceptions of Final Fantasy 7 and Resident Evil, every video-game turned movie has been rather pathetic.
And the book is always better than the film, and sequels never top the original.
Here we go..
Serious Sam
Wouldnt have to worry about them making a cheesy movie, bcause its supposed to be. Maybe get Bruce Campbell as lead.
Itll be perfect I know it. hehe

the spirits within movie sucked.... but advent children is such a massive, steaming pile of awesomeness it made up for everything they did wrong
Chrono Cross/Trigger or Final Fantasy 3 or 7 But they had Advent Children. Red Alert: Command and Conquer. Maybe even as farfetched as Zelda or some shit. Do that, and you would think Star Wars conventinos are bad? HAHAHA.
