To be fair though, when the Christian church started, it was quite looked down upon by the Romans, and its members largely considered morons.
Makes me wonder if, 2000 years from now, the origins of Scientology will be just as murky and sketchy as those of Christianity, and people will take it as a valid and respectable religion all over the world.
I doubt it. Early christian leaders, like the leaders of most early religions were poor men, who truly believed in what they were preaching, wheras the leaders of Scientology are stone cold scammers, out to make a buck from exploiting people's gullibility and need to fill a spiritual hole in their lives. No religion ever got credible that way.
Polite society tells me to tolerate Scientology, allow them their place in the world, and politely snub them in a smiling, insipid fashion.
Conan tells me to slaughter my enemies, see them driven before me, and hear the lamentation of their women.
And believe me, I really want to go with Conan, hear. All kicking in the doors, swords flashing, routing the evil priests and overturning their demonic alters.
