Would she still be a great American if she had broken a rib and doing her stupid routine after getting seriously injured caused it to puncture her heart? If I was the doctor, I would have yelled at her.

Well, her stubborn adherence to meaningless rote in the face of a possibly life-threatening injury makes her a great example of the typical American. Maybe that counts for something.

Poor girl, but I hope this causes Cheerleading to be less popular among kids. It's too damn dangerous.
Life is dangerous. You could get killed.....WALKIN YOUR DOGGIE! Hooo AH!
actually, cheerleading is one of the nation's more dangerous sports, and there is a high incidence of paralysis-causing injuries due to the crazy stunts going wrong. it's really awful
there's a girl who lives near me that was encouraged to do a stunt she was unsure of, and she was paralyzed when she fell. she's suing the coach and the school. I should find a link for it...
Wow, poor Tiannamen guy ... he could just have fallen off a human pyramid and kept clapping and stuff rather than letting a tank run him over ... at least I now know what to do when I want to spread the message of democracy in the face of oppression -- and live.

I thought that this girl was ridiculous. She fell on her head and kept doing the cheers while being wheeled out on a stretcher. That's just dumb, she could have injured herself even more. On that note, it is slightly inspiring in a time where people need inspiration. Seriously though, what a fucking idiot.
Yeah...I'll get behind you on that one. Maybe I'm a crabby, soulless bastard...but that was an incredibly stupid thing to do. I'm surprised the EMT's let her keep doing it. If I was the EMT on scene...the little psycho's arms would've been strapped down.

Actually, the guy in Tiannamen Sq. wasn't run over.
yeah....i was going to say....when i learned all the backboard and spinal injury stuff, we were always told to strap the person's arms down too in case they try to move, because if you don't know the extent of the injury you can cause a lot of serious damage....you would think that they would teach cheerleaders some of that information, considering the chances of them landing on their heads....and what was wrong with the emt's letting her do that?!
To me, heroics involve accepting significant risk of personal injury or death in order to aid others, further a noble cause (to use the author's words), etc. How is cheering a noble cause? I just don't get it. I rock climb, and accept the possibility of injury or death. However, climbing is a selfish, relatively pointless activity. Thus, getting hurt or dying climbing isn't usually heroic. Putting yourself at risk to save another climber? Heroic.
"My biggest concern was that I didn't want my squad to be distracted -- so that they could continue cheering on the team -- and I didn't want my team to be distracted from winning the game."
The only way a destroyed cheerleader doing her routine from a gurney could be more distracting is if her skeleton jumped out of her skin and scored a game winning slam dunk.
Which I would pay a hell of a lot of money to watch.
I have an option on a bridge you may be interested in. Call me.
When I first ssaw it, I thought .. Aww poor girl hit her head so hard she actually thinks shes still standing and doing her routine!! Then I thought a little and saw it again, then I thought..NO shes got major brain damage and now this is the only way she can communicate.

The greatest living American hero was once a cheerleader.
Maybe she's destined to follow in His foot steps.
George Bush, I suppose? Because he was a cheerleader. but then he graduated to the national guard, which is kind of like the cheerleaders of the military...
