The New Scoring

Could someone please explain the new Olympic scoring system to me?

1st place = Gold
2nd place = Silver
3rd place = Bronze

The points system they are using now.

For figure skating? I have no idea. I think they still just make up numbers, but in a different fashion, now.

Listen to what the commentators are saying. They explain it several times over.

But I always seem to be in a bar when skating is on.

Basically, there are now set elements that must be incorporated in the routines. So the couples (and probably the solo people as well, I haven't quite seen that yet) are jamming everything in and falling on something like ice dancing, where no one usually falls.

Ice dancers now get points for the degree of difficulty, hence the falling.
