I don't see how that test can be accurate...they train your brain into a pattern and then change the pattern around at the end, of course I am going to fuck it up, but only because I am not very good at tests and memory. If they had started the test with Black and good as synonomous and changed it at the end I wonder if the results would be the same. Reeks of bias in my opinion.

"Your data suggest a moderate automatic preference for White American compared to African American."

Yeah, I already knew this. It's not really any sort of revelation, and it doesn't make you racist.

Preference and discrimination are totally different things; I prefer guinness, but will drink other beers. They're probably just trying to be easygoing, though.

Interesting, test says I have a "moderate automatic preference" for black as opposed to white.

That test seems really subjective, though - I understand the attempt with word association, but they train you to associate word/race with a certain key then change the keys. I'd be interested to know the percentage of all results that people come out with.

Not really, no. I like Orange Juice more than Apple juice. That does not mean I will not drink apple juice if there is no OJ, and sometimes decide I would rather have Apple instead of Orange.
If you must know, how this relates to race for me has little to do with actual skin color and more with facial structure -- I find certain facial features more appealing than others, like how some people prefer red hair for example.

I know who I am and do not delude myself into thinking I am a perfect unbiased person, or take a view contrary to one I actually hold just to fit into a category of people who wish they were something they are not.

The fact that I even had to explain that seems silly to me.

I remember taking this like 2 years ago, and I never saw the point of it. At the end they ask you what race you prefer, and I think most people are either neutral or moderately prefer their own race. Doesn't take a Harvard test to tell me that.

Nope. As I understand it, the preference (in the US, at least) is for whites regardless of the race of the testee.

You seem a bit confused, so I'll help you out.

racĀ·ism:
1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

Preferring one race to another isn't racism. If you believed one race was superior to another, or discriminated against one race over another, that would be racism.

Having a preference is another way of saying that you find something superior to something else.

What this test tests is how you've been influenced by cultural stereotypes. Usually even blacks wind up with the "You show a slight automatic preference for whites" at the end of the test. Years of media inundation with the image of blacks as criminals, homeless, and drug addicts will do that.

They change the test around to see if you just click faster because of the original pattern, then they check to see if your timing is off due to which side of the screen the image is, or if you're timing changes based on the race of the person.
