Will Scotland be humilated in their own sport by a bunch of colonists from Smalltown, Michigan? Ooh, the tension mounts.

Sorry but I have to root for the motherland... go Finland!!!

Uusipavelniemi is a mathematical genius you know, with a mean draw and a wicked hammer, although it should be a great game no doubt.

Kinda funny that Canada's best shot for gold on ice is in curling...hah!
wink

...right. Um, how many gold medals does Finland have? That's what I thought.

Yes, in fact. And quite embarrassingly. Poor Scots.

I'm getting up at 5:45 so I can watch the live broadcast at 6a.m. of the bronze metal match between the USA and Scotland(playing under Great Britain's flag)

Wow. Now that's dedication. Even my parents (who are avid curlers) would say fuck it and wait for the replay.

Only they wouldn't really say "fuck it".

Canad EMBARASSED Finland.

I wish the US could play Finland for the silver, I think we'd best them.

Im not so sure about that; the Finns did have the better record than both. It seems they dropped the ball. Canada is good as gold but it was clear that the Finns were havin a bad day...

Let me get this straight...you think baseball is boring....but sliding rocks...across ice...with brooms...is exciting? confused

Baseball is really boring.

But so is curling. Just not quite as much.

Baseball may be boring to you, but baseball is not in and of itself boring.

Why do they yell so much when they're sweeping? It just seems so rude...

The only reason the US record wasn't better was because they lost to Canada so it would be really nice to see a USA Finland match. I'm just talking/thinking aloud, of course.

Yea I concur, it'd be a great match... I always felt that to lose a match was not the proper way to win a silver medal, that the bronze should go to a loser, but that'd be a weird tournament structure I suppose.

Rather, a bad sixth end.

Seeing Gretzky spit over the rail then leave with a scowl on his face was heartbreaking. ooo aaa

I must say I don't know what the 'oooaaa' smilie means, so I don't really know what you mean. But, one thing I'll give Gretzky is that he never once dodged a question (even during 'the scandal'), spouted bullshit, or held back his feelings during this tournament. I know the amount of emotion during the Olympics can sometimes get uncomfortable to watch, but those in high offices (General Manager/Great One) can often frustrate in their lack of candidness.

If anyone is still jonesing for some more curling, my TiVo says EPSN2 will be putting on the World Cup championships on Monday at 9.

It's only a half hour though, I'm curious how they plan to squeeze a 3 hour game into that.

I missed most of the Finland/Canada match (as I was drunk), but I did manage to catch the last two ends. Later read about the sixth end, which was devastating.

Oh well, I'm still insanely proud of the team, and especially of Uusis/M-15, who is just an amazing guy. He can solve the rubik's cube in 25 seconds, he's a mathematical genius and was at one point an extremely promising diver, until an injury and money troubles forced him to quit. The rest of the team is pretty damn impressive too, especially considering how small a sport curling is in Finland (I think less than 1000 active players).

Yeah, one of those three cheers was definitely for Finland.

It's just too bad there's so much disdain here for the European game. I find it quite beautiful.
