So why do I feel it?

Because of this!

For those who don't want to click... Command & Conquer is ten years old. TEN. I actually remember very clearly in my mind reading the PC Gamer review of the game and wishing I had something better than my 386SX 25MHz, and then the thrill after trying it on a spanking new Pentium 100. WHY? WHY must I be so old I don't want to play games anymore?

Yea, that's a bummer. Don't let it get you down. If it makes you feel any better, that was a good year before I got a Pentium 100.

Oh, it was Christmas '96 before I got my P100. AST, I believe... I still have the Labtec speakers.

How shocked were you by CD-ROMs? I went from magazine coverdisks with one-and-a-half demos split over two disks, to CDs with twenty, thirty demos... love

And jumping from a 40Mb HDD to 500Mb was agoraphobia-inducing!

This is all true. It was all pretty crazy for me. I was mostly used to the computers at school and the IBM at my house. Giant step that summer was. Couldn't get me to do anything else. Mostly I played WCII till my eyes hurt.

I was just so excited to play TIE Fighter with the Gouroud Shading on!

And I remember being utterly shit up by the first encounter with zombies in Quake, and the T-Rex in Tomb Raider (and the bit where you explode trying to do the nude cheat...)

Hail the blessed turbo button.

It could make my packard Intel 26mhz run at 33!

When windows would start and play the *TaDa!* wav, if I forgot to have the turbo pushed in it would make an ear-splitting screeching noise that sounded like 1000 fingernails on a chalkboard driving a train just crashed into a school bus full of 3rd rate highschool marching band brass section players.

I remember when a computer with a mouse was a wild, crazy innovation. It'll never last, we said.

Luckily, I just missed by a semester or so having to use punched cards. A VT100 was luxury then.

Oh, and... get off my balcony! (I don't have a lawn...)
