NEWS: Manhunt for Gay Bar Suspect Ends in Violence

Once again the headlines touch my life. One of the victims of this crime is my friend Bob. He's a paramedic and ALS Coordinator for a private ambulance service, a friend and a mentor. He's recovering well. He was very lucky. He got the hatchet to the face and shot in the back. In typical Bob fashion he signed out of the hospital AMA the next day and will be at work on Monday morning. He's battered and bruised with a HUGE scar on the right side of his face and a bullet hole in the back, but otherwise fine. The bullet hit his left scapula and ricocheted around the outside of his ribcage out the right side of his chest not striking any vital organs.

The only thing I feel bad about is that he just "came out" a couple of years ago after hiding who he really was for nearly 50 years (he has an ex-wife and 4 kids, but ALWAYS knew he was gay). He was just getting comfortable enough with himself to where he could go out and have fun and he runs into this little psycho. Bob holds no ill-will towards his attacker and his concerns are for the kids family.

My thoughts and prayers are with the police officer and woman's family that were killed in Arkansas and with the other two victims from the Fall River incident and wishing them a speedy recovery.

On a positive note...please tell Bob that I admire the gargantuan, brass spheres swinging from his legs. From coming out...to taking a hit like he took only to sign out AMA and go back to work...not to mention the fact that he can overcome the temptation to hate...only to feel bad for his attacker's family.
