A 14-year-old unknown actress named Evanna Lynch has been cast as Luna Lovegood for the upcoming adaptation of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. In addition, Imelda Staunton has been cast as Professor Umbridge.

Oscar nominee Imelda Staunton is finally confirmed to play new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher Professor Umbridge, an insidious inquisitor character who's the main new addition to the cast. The part of Bellatrix Lestrange, an evil follower of Lord Voldemort, has gone to Helen McCrory ("Casanova", "Charlotte Gray").

While there are been plenty of pictures for Imelda Staunton, I've been able to track down a picture of the girl who plays Luna; she was purchasing a signed copy Order of the Pheonix while in the hospital three years ago.

Evanna Lynch's story can be found here. [ BugMeNot Link.]

And a three year old picture of Lynch can be found here.

I've been on the fence about the Potter movie franchise and their adaptation of the books.

Luna Lovegood will be the straw for my personal camel. Screw that character up and I'll have to walk, sorry.

I am crossing my fingers.

Indeed, I would have to agree, I think it's a character that can easily be overdone...I will stick around to see then screw up Half-Blood Prince, just so I can be indignant when they take out "You Know Poo" or some inanity that may possibly offend people on-screen.

Additional casting news; George Harris has been cast as Kingsley Shacklebolt.
And as far as the films go, I think the pair directed by Christopher Columbus were craptacular but I've really enjoyed both Goblet and Azkaban.

Fourteen-year-old unknown. Well well, a teenage actor who hasn't been on magazine covers yet, I never. Who were they expecting, Doe Eyes from War of the Worlds and a hundred other films?

Enter my agreement for the importance of Luna... Lynch has "the look" in my opinion, but it's really the director who steers the characters right or wrong.

PLEASE don't make her over-the-top crazy! Please!

edit:
A pretty up-to-date, complete cast list.

Yay! Staunton is confirmed! I loved her in The Singing Detective...which Michael Gambon starred in, coincidentally.

YES. Who else could play Hagrid?! Apparently there's some character issue, but I can't figure out what it is.

Pleeeeease come back, Hagrid.

Wow thanks a lot chris...this is a great story...And thanks to everyone who posted links bout full cast. I think the girl Lynch looks like shed make a good lovegood, but it definatly depends on how the director wants it to go. Ive never seen any of the lady whos gonna play umbrigde movies..so i hope she mean and looks evil. I cant imagine anyone else playing hagrid...i mean after all these years thats who i pictured. I really cant wait...i just hope they dont butcher it.....O and i know none of you probly like him but Dobby is coming back at least for a lil scene and that makes me HAPPY!

I'm not buying this. You do a web search on this individual, and there's just two listings for her. Two copies of the story about the hospital visit/book from a few years back.

Were this something more than an anonymous "scoop" on that page, I'd think it'd be all over the web.

Wouldn't shock me if this were a joke by a friend or parent of the girl.

Lemme make an account there and announce that MisterSatan is going to play Dumbolddwarf...

maybe lola had an aging potion hidden in one of her trunks, and madonna found out about it? was scared she'd use it?

I really hope they try not to keep it a kids movie series. Because the 4th book was just the beginning of it all, as you guys know.

I'll be damn pissed if they cut any of the violence.

You seriously think that the parent of a huge Harry Potter fan would play a mean joke like that on their kid?

The BBC is known for printing unconfirmed rumors, right?

I think it's completely reasonable to assume that her family and friends set up an elaborate news website, tracked down a three year old picture of the actress, photoshopped a copy of The Order of the Phoenix in her hands (along with the fake scar on her forehead), and then traveled back in time to place the story on an Irish/Welsh news site and/or hacked google's cache. In addition, I think that there might be about a dozen or so Evanna Lynch's that are now 14 and ALL of them grew up in Great Britain AND showed up for the tryouts. And all of SuicideGirls was made just for your benefit as an elaborate ploy to get screenshots of you looking at boobies. Remind me to tell the story about that time I invented MySpace in an elaborate ploy to give an ex-girlfriend a V.D.

I never thought that maybe J.K. Rowling remembered a girl that was released from a hospital for one hour so she could get her copy of OotF signed. Or that Rowling had any pull on any of the Potter movies. I mean, only professional actresses and not screaming Harry Potter fans would have lined up for the chance to audition for the part of Loony Lovegood.

And we all know that MisterSatan was the original inspiration for Neville Longbottom.
