When a person decides to become a drug mule, it is their decision. A decision usually made out of desperation, but it's still a choice. But to take an innocent animal, and treat them as something disposable is beyond my comprehension.
The Drug Enforcement Administration arrested 22 Colombian nationals for smuggling heroin into the United States via various methods, including surgically implanting the drug into puppies, officials said Wednesday.
At least three puppies died from having liquid heroin packets placed inside them and then being stitched back up, DEA spokesman David Ausiello said.
Considering as we legally raise billions of animals in tiny cages every year for the sole purpose of slaughtering them, and, similarly, inject millions more with experimental drugs for our research purposes, this small group of animals doesn't seem particularly tragic to me... At least most of them lived. It's a fucked up idea, but I think animals continue to deal with a lot worse from us. I condone eating meat (and I'm a meat eater), so in the name of consistency I really don't feel entitled to be too angry about this.
Take an innocent animal and treat it as something disposable? We do it all the time...

How could you say that?! Haven't you learned that it's perfectly acceptable in today's society to devalue the animals that aren't "cute"? I mean, c'mon, man...a cute little puppy-dog's life is far more important than that of a stinky cow.
Yeah...I completely agree with you. If the drug mules were literally mules, people would say, "Oh, that's shitty," and get on with their day. When they're puppies, though, those smugglers have absolutely crossed the line.

I don't know about that. Dead dogs are only worth a couple of posts on a web site. A dead cow is worth about $3/pound.

It's all fucked up.
Ummm, it's not that they're cute, really. It has more to do with the fact that dogs have been our companions for centuries. They help blind people, for shit's sake. They are more than animals. Your comparison to mules isn't really fitting because we don't really care that much when actual humans are used to traffic drugs, but when you mess with our dogs, then you can go fuck off. It might not be the most "logical" perspective, but most of the shit that people feel isn't. Sorry you two can't understand it...
