to address an earlier comment, I don't think Vito is planning a move against Tony necessarily. I think all of those lines were more to show how cocky he's become since losing the weight. all of the things he mentioned happening to Tony were things that heavier people are at higher risk for.
maybe this is insignificant, but did the hospital room where Hesh's son-in-law was not look like the same one tha Jackie Aprile Sr. was in back in season one? I'm sure it could just be another room in the same hosiptal, but that was the first thing I thought when Tony & co. walked into the room during that scene.
this is all way to much for me....
Here in Denmark they always had sopranos on very late at night, so i have just spent my last 5-7 weekends to see all the seasons....
I am sooooo up fr another season, but i guess it wont come to DK untill 2009 or something like that...

I think there will be a connection somehow between his weight loss and Tony's balooning girth, like little ongoing jabs and jealousies, but later in a key showdown he won't survive a shot to the stomach like Tony (hopefully) will because he lost all the padding.
Re Kingsley: Tim Daly is coming back this season too. He's not as big a name but the storyline for him last year was great.
The best scene was when he tried to hock an Emmy Award (Chase's?) and could only get $10. ("If it was an Oscar or a Grammy ...")

Could be. But Vito expressly linked his newfound health to the possibility of him assuming Tony's position, should anything happen to him - twice. I am wondering if Vito will hold some sort of grudge against Tony for Eugene's death. OR if he will see Tony's injury as a sign of weekness, which will further engage his ambitions. OR, let's not forget: Finn knows that Vito is gay, which means that Meadow is at least AWARE of Finn's views on the matter. Vito has not forgotten that Finn knows what he knows, and he also knows that he is about to marry Meadow, which will only bring Finn closer to Tony - therefore making him a liability if Meadow tells Tony, even in passing. We all know how much Tony reveres Meadow, possibly even over Carmella and definitely over A.J. It's all very fucking interesting and exciting. We have a long season ahead of us!
also,

Actually, the room Jackie St. was in was different. It was smaller and didn't have windows facing the hospital hall. There was only one window behind Jackie's bed. But they've used the room Hesh's son-in-law was in a number of times. It is a set, after all. Same room Benny was in; same room Mustang Sally was in; same room Tony's art dealer girl was in; etc.

that's all possible... but the way I'm thinking is that there are going to be all kinds of red herrings as far as how things will end for Tony... and that anything they're setting up as early as the first episode is likely to be just that, a red herring. if it's anything like the show I'm used to, whatever ends up happening will come entirely out of left field when it does. I'm not so sure Vito will be the culprit... but, you never know...
-probably the best beginning of all the seasons. the song was badass
-how pissed does Janice seem to be bothered with a child.
-i though it was very odd to see Tony and Carm eating at a sushi place. seemed so out of place.
-i love that Chris's sponsor is with him at the wake. funny how that was slid in there.
-Silvio is the man. "that florida thing. yeah, that's a no go." fucking classic.
-AJ kind of looks like a douche.
-Uncle Junior really, really depresses me. man he looks bad.
-"It's a nursing home!" that was golden.

I guess that's why we all love the show, eh? But my experience with the show is that the first 3 episodes of any given season, always lay a lot of ground work for where the last 3 will end up - and yeah, you are right, with plenty of red herring to go around.
I suspect that there was a good reason (and then some) why the heretofore stand-up guy Eugene Pontecorvo had to get offed.
They need to both limit the potential suitable replacements for both Tony and for his apparent rival this season, Vito Spatafore.
It looks like Chris got bumped up to Capo, I'd assume he's taking the reigns of Ray Curto's crew. Which can't be going over so well down there. Unless something else happened to Pauly and he's running Tony's old crew. I think Paulie should pop up this week, so there may be some clarification. What I think will be kind of odd is that they've never really fleshed out just who works for Ray Curto. So they'd have to introduce at least three new characters.
The current Capos are Paulie (nutjob), Bobby (always appears in stupid looking hat), Vito (gay, and in thick with his cousin Phil), and apparently Chrissy. Who's acting boss while Tony's recovering from the gutshot? We have to hope it's Silvio.
Who's left in Vito's crew? Someone from it (usually the Capo) dies every season. Gene might have been a good choice, now Tony doesn't have that option.
The shot of Meadow and Carmella, when Tony came out of it, was gorgeous. When Tony B. was trying to take the briefcase from Tony, I was actually saying out loud, "no, Tony. Go back, Tony."
I liked the bit with Tim Daly's character getting beat up by Benny and that other dude... THAT was classic... and that whole opening sequence with the colombians, IMO they don't show enough of that side of things on the show sometimes.
was kind of scary how quickly things seemed to be falling apart at the seems for a bit there before Tony recovered
and what the fuck is Larry Barese doing out of his house so much? "hey fuckstick, you ever see these in medical school? they're called balls" - tell it to Paulie
oh, and Vito with Finn... I was worried for Finn... until Tony recovered.
