I think the point is that there isn't really a choice, and he just has to get on with it however hard it will be for him.
I mean seriously, what other options are there?

This time there seemed to be an unusual amount of venemous "pffft what a loser ... get over it!"
Re-read the responses. I don't see any of that, aside from the continued use of the phrase "suck it up." Yeah, it probably would have been nicer if we'd said "gosh, your friend will have to work really hard and find some inner strength and it won't be easy, goodness he's got a tough 30 days ahead" but "suck it up" has suck a nice, simplistic ring to it...
My spouse and I have been separated for over 8 months now...not because he broke the law but because he is in Iraq. I'm surviving...he's surviving! 30 days is nothin!
In response to my own comment:
Yeah, it does really suck having to be away from your husband/wife for more than a day but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do! I admit that the last 8 months have been lonely and sad but I can't help it and neither can he. Whoever said absence makes the heart grow founder...it couldn't be said better!
I do have sympathy for your friend but c'mon...it could be much worse! So, suck it up!
