I carry a leatherman and a little belt knife with me everywhere I go 'in case shit', in case something happens and I need tools or a knife for something important. So far I'm happy to have developed this habit, because it's made my life that much easier over the years, no matter how many funny looks I get when I tell people that I carry a couple of knives everywhere. Do you have any habits that you've developed to help you out just in case something unexpected happens?

I carry duct tape in my car, and I keep a roll handy around the house. That stuff is useful for EVERYTHING.

I generally carry around a knife and a multitool... the multitool in whatever backpack or satchel or jacket I've got for the day, the knife in my car (it's a USMC-issue bayonet, so I'm not allowed to carry it around in public... whatever )
They do both come in very useful, on occasion; unfortunately, I'm not allowed to carry the multitool overseas, never mind the knife. Whilst I understand about airport security etc, it annoys me that I can't even carry the multitool in checked luggage. There are times when it would have come in useful overseas, but was sitting on the desk next to my bed.
The multitool is a little Gerber Nautilus, not expensive (I think you can get them for US$30-50 in the US?) but very very useful, as in addition to the tools it also has a little LED array so you can see what you're doing in the dark.

I carry a credit card knife. Very handy. Plus if you ever have to go through a metal detector, you just put your whole wallet in the bucket with your keys and they just about never look through it. That's not to say I've ever done such a thing. I would never take it into a good couple buildings that I shouldn't. But the best part is that it keeps all your credit cards straight.

In my car I carry a first aid kit and gloves, and a heavy metal stick with a little pokey bit on the topside. It was once a hand for a jack. Now it's for thwacking people who mean to harm me. I also sometimes wear brass knuckles as a belt buckle, and on long trips I carry this bad boy:

Which incidentally I found on an elementary softball field when I was 10. Nice.

I ALSO have a flashlight that has a flashing red handle for flagging down help, razorblades to slice through seatbelts and little pokey things for breaking glass.

So don't fuck with me!

I also keep bandaids, neosporin and other assorted first aid thingies. I'm surprised at how many people I know don't keep that stuff.

I've decided to start calling you A.C. Slater. Dunno why, I'm drinking wine and it seems fitting.

My girlfriend makes fun of me for all the shit in my car. Flares, tire reinflating foamy stuff, oil, battery jumper AND jumping cables, Rescue emergency fuel, gloves, extra coat, blanket, towels, fuses, and so on and so on.

And she doesn't even have AAA. That girl's going to be the death of me.

Also, I carry keep my Gerber, knife, and Sharpie either in my car or on me. And a bottle opener. And corkscrew. Because you never know. The bottle opener's actually really neat. Goes in the wallet. It's just a piece of metal with a eye-shaped hole in it. Got it from Marlboro for my birthday.

I can't deal without chapstick. Murphy's law, I always need it most when I forget it.
