West Virginia’s public schools will soon introduce an interesting addition to their PE in form of Dance Dance Revolution

Children in West Virginia's public schools will be required to play Konami Digital Entertainment Inc.'s popular "Dance Dance Revolution" video game under a deal to help the state battle rising childhood obesity rates, the company said on Wednesday.
…
As part of the partnership, which includes all 765 of the state's schools, West Virginia will develop a curriculum based around the video game and track its progress.

Though the notion might seem strange to some, the game’s players can attest to its cardiovascular benefits. Still, one wonders the effects this will have at the local arcades.

As if kids dont have enough to worry about at school now they have to stand on a flashing stage in front of other kids and attempt to move in time to some crazy music. That should do wonders for their self esteem. whatever

Good for them.

It's about time schools started to introduce healthy exercise without playing the same PE games over and over.

Apparently my little brother plays a really nice DDR pad in school, he fucking loves it.

It's also starting to become a staple at SGNC events. We've had it at two events, and now we'll be having it on my 10 foot projection screen prior to the Super Bowl. It's a fun fun game.

way to be pessimisstic.

these kids are being given a fun way to work out. that rules.

besides, you think all of these kids are going to magically know how to do this? you know that at the majority of kids in any PE class won't know this shit, so they'll undoubtedly be in good company.

You know what your guys' and these kid's problem is?

Too much pie.

Fatties.

(Hehehehe, I'm fat too!)

But it's a good way to get exercise I suppose. Good for the fat kids!

(Boy would the kids with no beat feel like shit...)

Yes there will be one dance pad and each child will take turns doing their routine in front of the whole school. OR there will be a bunch of kids flailing on a bunch of pads trying to figure out how to do this, thus providing a level playing field for everyone. And even if I'm wrong and it is a bunch of kids watching another kid try to dance on this pad, is that ANY worse than a bunch of kids standing around watching a weak kid trying to do a pull-up?

kids already feel that way about everything they do in PE. at least DDR is fun once you get into it, unlike square dancing.

I'm not sure how this would work. After all, the kid who's the best at this is probably also the most unpopular kid at school.

That much, I'll give you. What sadistic MF'er decided that should be in the curriculum?

My old gym teacher used to threaten us with square dancing whenever we'd start cutting up in class. He was the football coach and he didn't want to square dance any more than we did.

I still don't understand why there was no remedial PE. The dumb kids didn't have to take my English classes, why did they get to laugh at me in PE?

Bollocks. I can let off a well timed sniper shot to put a bullet through someone's eyes at five miles in most videogames, but I can't do DDR to save my life, and it's embarassing, especially when you're surrounded by eager DDR freaks.

I mean, for a lot of kids this is cool, but for some kids this is just another little slice of hell to deal with every day.

...to salvage some semblance of self-esteem? I mean...if they're going to be cooking fries & shoveling poop for the rest of ther lives...the least you can allow them is to laugh at the pretty girl who sucked at dodgeball.
