Konfused Kitty.

I would have posted this issue in the cats group, but I figured not every SG member who has a cat is a part of that group and I would get a better response out here. Anyway, I got my cat Moscow when I lived with my mom. He had other cats that he grew up with and played with, so when I moved out (he was an adult by this time) I thought he might need another cat to live with, for company. So I bought him a male kitten that I named Madrid. They became aquainted with each other and got to be very close. Then Madrid started trying to nurse on Moscow. He would snuggle up next to him and suck on his chest. Moscow protested at first, but gave up as Madrid was very persistant about it. I thought it may have just been that Madrid was weaned too young and he did it for comfort reasons and that he would stop. Well, its been over a year and he still does it. And I'm almost positive Moscow enjoys it too. Its creepy and I hate to see them do it. Is there something wrong with my cats?

Not that I can think of. They're cats. Cats are weird sometimes. And when they are weaned to early they do very weird things. You should talk to a vet if you're truly worried, but if it just creeps you out look the other way.

Nothing wrong with it. There's nothing creepy about it. My kitty kneads my legs like she did when she was nursing. I mean, you do realize it's not a sexual thing? Cat sex doesn't involve nipples. Nipples are for nursing. Most cats have habits left over from kittenhood.

Yea, one of my cats stands on a pillow, kneads it, and sucks on the corner. It's very strange looking.

Nah, there's nothing wrong with Madrid, lots of cats do that. I'd actually take it as a good sign, it basically indicates that Moscow is a nuturing figure in his life, and is at once an act of comfort and submission. Cats, generally, will only do that nursing posture if they feel completely warm and safe... I have an eight year old cat who will still occasionally do it when I let him sleep on my chest (which he's done since he was a kitten smaller than my hand) . Moscow probably enjoys it because it acknowledges his dominance over Madrid and is being a good alpha by letting the younger cat take his comfort.

You'll have to take them to England if they want to get married though.

My dog loves granny smith apples. If I cut one up he starts to drool and blow bubbles. My gf thinks this is so funny that we always have apples in the house now. The downside is that yesterday my dog started to drool as soon as I came home from work. He continued to drool (alot) until I cut up an apple to share with him. I have a large dog, so the drool is not inconsiderable.

I had a cat that used to try to nurse on one of my dogs.

Lots of cats do it, don't worry about it. Be glad they get along so well.
