i had some dreams of places that i've never been to before & forget about them then i have a really weird deja vu that creeps the fuck out of me when i'm standing at the exact same place i was in my dream .. i tell my gf & she tells me it's past life regression stuff....
I almost always remember my dreams. most of the time it's stuff that doesn't make much sense, but sometimes i wake up thinking the dream was real because it was so vivid. don't think i've ever had a nightmare though.

Oh, and eat lots of cheese before you sleep to get nightmares!
Really? The tryptophan in cheese helps me sleep better, and causes really vivid dreams, in my experience. Same thing if I take 5-HTP.
If I can manage to get over 8 hours of sleep, I will almost always be able to lucid dream.Otherwise I can't usually remember them at all.
There are certain techniques to train yourself to recall dreams, but most are related to lucid dreaming-- There are plenty of books and websites about it.
I used to not have dreams.. you have to consciously make an effort to want to remember them at first if you want to start. Before you go to bed you have to think or say to yourself something like "I'm going to remember my dreams in the morning".
I don't do this 'cause I don't really care. I do get dreams I can remember though these days since I'm taking ZMA (zinc magnessium aspertate) before bed. That seems to make my dreams reallll crazy.
A lot of times I'll have flashbacks about my dreams through the day.
Actually getting to sleep and staying asleep is a whole different story for me these days. Don't get me started. I hate sleep.
update:
bocuma definitely had the best advice I've ever recieved. since I've made a conscious effort to sleep on my back (three words: breath right strips!) I've actually been able to dream on a consistent type basis although I lose them pretty quickly after I wake up. I highly recommend this method to anybody.
