Don't come at me with the "you have dreams, you just don't remember them." No shit. I'm just wondering who else goes to sleep, it goes grey, then you wake up without even a hint of a dream. Every day. Anybody?

I'll trade you. I die at least once every night.

By the time it happens in the waking world, I'll be a pro.

From: Sleep and Dreaming
Neither is REM sleep sufficient for dreaming. Dreaming varies with cognitive abilities as well as sleep stages. Despite abundant REM sleep in children, thematically organized dream reports are rare before ages 7 to 9 years, and their appearance is correlated with the development of waking visuospatial skills. Dreaming may be absent in a variety of neurologically damaged patients who nevertheless show REM sleep.

So unless you are neurologically damaged you are dreaming. Generally though the thought is people who don't care about their dreams or are heavy sleepers forget them so quickly they feel like they didn't dream.

I think you could argue that a dream actually is the memory you wake up with in the morning, so if you don't wake up with any memories, you didn't really dream at all. Oh, you had random cascades of neural activity while you were asleep, but they didn't leave any traces in your long term memory, so your waking mind never attempted to assemble a semi-coherent narrative out of them when you woke up. I virtually never dream, though once and a while there are a few vague images.

I rarely dream. It's incredibly confusing when I do, because I'm out of practice. I wake up totally disoriented.

Maybe your whole life is just a dream, and when you're sleeping you're actually living.

I think he is admitting he is dreaming. He's just saying he doesn't remember it, so, don't tell him what he already knows.

When I was drinking a lot, I didn't ever remember dreaming.

i can only remember my dreams when i fall asleep on my back. it's been this way for as long as i can remember. maybe i fall into a deeper sleep on my back or something. it's less comfortable for me, though (i usually sleep on my side), so i don't do it much.

To remember a dream, you have to wake up a certain period of time after REM.

Five minutes after the end of the dream, half the content is forgotten. After ten minutes, 90% is lost.

That's awesome advice, I never even thought about it that way. I always sleep on my side. Maybe I'll try to force myself to fall asleep on my back. My girl will have to live with the snoring. smile

I rarely ever remember my dreams. I think I block them out; I still remember my dreams from childhood and they were not pretty.

I suddenly stopped remembering my dreams 14 years ago after being reminded of a tramatic incident. I know that I dream because I talk in my sleep, but I have no recollection of anything.

It concerns me sometimes, so I've done a bit of research. They say that dreams allow us to workout some of the problems that we are having in a 'safe' environment and process experiences. Kinda makes me wonder if it inhibits my mental development.

I was going to say the same thing... I don't know... I doubt I dream, most of the time. Otherwise I would be better at it, and I could have those cool dreams that actually make sense that you hear people talk about smile

You can also try eating some chocolate just before you go to sleep. I tried it and I had horrendous nightmares, but I remembered them vividly.

People have a much more overactive imagination when children - same as the believing in Santa Claus thing - the dreams are going to be vivid because of things imprinted on the mind during the day.

I've been taking Prozac - and my dreams have been SO vivid, and I've been remembering them.
So if you want vivid dreams, take prozac wink (hehe)

We ALL dream. EVERY NIGHT. Just because you don't remember your dreams does not mean you've "stopped dreaming".
