My roommate (one I don't like or get along with) owes me money (not a large amount, just $60) but has little intention of paying me back. How would I go about getting my money from him? Any suggestions?

Every time I loan someone money, I just pretend like I'm giving it to them. Makes it a lot easier.

Take 60$ and invest in a good set of thumbscrews.

You at least get to keep the thumbscrews after he pays up. wink

Really, though, just ask him? "Hey, do you think you could give me that money you owe me sometime soon?" If he told you he wasn't going to pay you back, well. Like I said, never lend him money again.
But if he's had some time to save the small sum up to give it back, say you're going to be needing that money back for something.

Or just hang out with him and make him buy you lunch a bunch of times.
That usually works.

Or beer, make him buy beer.

if you're having trouble bringing it up, you could try casually mentioning how broke you are, or how you need some money but don't have time to swing by an atm, and any or all of the $60 he owes you would really help you out today.

or punch him in the ovary and demand it back.

I'd just ask him.

If he can't swing the $60 all at once, have him give you $10 or $20. Keep pestering him until you've gotten all $60 back.

Sorry I should have clarified. It's not a problem of asking him, because I have, he just refused to pay.

I'm just hoping there is some non-violent solution to the problem smile

And he is your roommate? That is kind of scary. What if he just decides not to pay rent, or part of the phone bill?

Did he give you some sort of rationale for his refusal?

Knee-cap him, that is the only solution.

Seriously, whenever I "loan" a friend money I kinda do so with the thought that I'm not going to see it paid back. So effectively I'm giving them money. That way when I don't see it back there's no harm done.

Hold on... is this the same douchebag who doesn't clean up after his cat? Or am I thinking of someone else's roommate? If so... fuck him up.

If not... (or if you don't feel like going to jail today) just keep harassing him. Or if you're paying joint bills or rent just slip it in there.

Or eat $60 worth of his food.

That's not a problem. I'm moving out in a week.

Because I've used things of his while we were living together (although vice versa he's used things of mine) he seems to think he's entitled to keep the money, as a sort of payment.

A recipe:

To obtain your money back you will need the following:

Your roomie's knees.
A 2' plank with nails in. (60cm metric)

Combine all ingredients in a dark area, and mix vigourously for 10 minutes, strain the resulting mixture to obtain the desired cash, and then discard.

Serves 7 to 10 (for assault with a deadly weapon)

My Lending Rules:

1. I will not loan anyone an amount larger than I can afford to lose.

3. If they don't pay it back, I don't loan a second time.

Precisely.
But I read your post in the roommates group and lest a note there...I don't know how you're managing to be so calm, but I commend you for it. What a DICK!!!

I used to know a guy named Hector the Collector. But $60 might be too small potatos for him. And I don't know him anymore. So you should probably just fuhgettaboudit.
