To be an actual science it has to be amenable to testing and verification using the scientific method. There's been plenty of time to establish a scientific basis for it, but it hasn't happened.

The speculations you offer (and that's all they are) are confronted in the Butterflies and Wheels critique you yourself linked to.

That this thread "just turned stupid" seemed to me to coincide with the point at which claims about its scientific basis were being made.

it's just like palmistry and numerology (which I happen to be very ineterested in). None of these things are science (rumpology, anyone?!), but there are parts of the old systems that are, statistically speaking, usually true.
I have found that the hand types in palmistry almost always match the personality of the palms owner. I don't believe it can tell the future though. Some do.
If you run your life based on this stuff, you are heading for problems. It's best just left as something that can allow you to think about things from more perspectives than the one you see, which it frequently can do.
If you want a way to be completely guided by your subconscious/intuition, then just ask a pendulum. But that's another matter.

All hardened sceptics need to remember that for a long time, electricity was un-harnessed, and unknown. Therefore it is more than feasible that there are other energies that we have yet to discover and harness...

'scuse me while I kiss the sky etc

Do you believe in astrology? How far does your belief go? Sun signs? Daily horoscopes? How often to you make decisions influenced by your beliefs?

Ha back to the beginging........

Yes I do believe in astrology, my belief goes up to about hmmm say "knee high" I believe in the full chart not just sun signs, and I do not believe in daily horoscopes. I make decisions based on how I feel about the situation I am in.

Yes people this was a thread to answer some simple questions, not to go on a ramble, everyone has made their points, some people believe others dont, this has now become a topic just like religion and politics, and it sucks cause astrology can be a very fun thing to get into and talk about but this just turned stupid.

If you enjoy astrology, there's a group for it. smile

I don't believe in astrology has a "faith or religion" has I stated before I believe in it as an actual science (a science that is just taking longer to provide more information for people to actually see it as a science) and yes there are other sciences yet to be "defined"

I don't join strange "mystical groups" or have occult meetings or believe in dragons. I just believe that astrology exists, and I can not be the only SG member to think so.

So, you believe is astrology but dismiss the group out of hand?
Why?
Because it isn't in the "science and technology" section?

Just because I believe in astrology doesnt mean I want to talk it about it all day long hang out with others who believe in it or anything like that. I believe what I believe I am not telling others they are wrong for not believing but I think its kinda silly this is going as far as to say its almost like a religion or cult. I did not dismiss this group for being outta hand, I never said it was outta hand, I just have no interest in joining it.....cant there just be a simple answer for everything? Or do you need scienctific proof on why I don't want to do something.

There has also been a tremondous amount of time to establish and figure out how to cure the common cold but that hasnt happened yet either. Just because something hasnt been figured out yet doesnt mean it wont happen.

But I am done with the subject already... if anyone has ever met me in person astrology would probally never come up in convo and talking about it this much makes me feel like one of those annoying "jesus freaks" who knock on your door asking if you have been saved. I just answered the question on the thread, didn't want to start Debate 101 of here.........lets all be friends and forget which sign we are LOL

I just wanted to interject and say that one of the reasons there's no cure for the common cold is not because of its mystical unexplained properties, but rather just because there are at least one hundred different viruses that can cause a cold. You can't really compare the lack of a cure for the cold to the lack of a scientific explanation for astrology.

Cairo nailed this already, but the difference is that we understand the problems of curing the common cold. We know what viruses are, we know that they mutate, we know that we can't simply find "a cure" and have it work for all time.

There is nothing comparably "scientific" about our understanding of astrology. Nothing.

Works for me. Actually, I'm happy for anyone to talk about their star sign if they want to. It's only when someone claims a "scientific basis" for it that my hackles rise.
