So apparently there's a federal election going on up here north of the 49th.
Moreover, there are more than two political parties running.

One of the multiple political parties, the Sex Party of Canada, was recently told that Canada Post would not distribute their political leaflets because said leaflets were deemed pornographic.

"But as far as unaddressed ad mail goes, we say no - it's sexually explicit," said Bob Taylor, communications manager for Canada Post.

But Sex Party Leader John Ince said Canada Post has intervened in the political process, arguing the brochure is "tasteful, non-pornographic and contains important political information."

The party is now suing, with the matter to be settled in federal court, after the election.

I just checked out their platform... I really don't see them ever managing to get a single MP into the federal goverment... and if they did, probably get laughed at constantly.

Part of their platform I can understand... most of it though is just plain looney tunes.

Wow, that is a sad leafet... I'd be offended purely on the design alone... and well my previous comments stand.

Yeah, but shouldn't they be able to promote whatever ridiculousness they want to in the spirit of a level playground as far as the election?

I believe that's the issue here.
And it's just funny that Canada has a Sex Party.

I have no problems with them promoting their party, the problem being the leafet itself, in all matter, is offensive... I wouldn't want to receive something of that nature in my mail... sure I'd just toss it in the trash... but a lot of parents/older persons would get RATHER pissed about it. Canada Post is just doing some CYOA... the Party SHOULD have thought about this before hand, and put out something a touch more professional... give it a first basic glance, it looks like an ad for either orgies... or a sex toy party... neither of which should be delivered by post, rather by volunteers.

What do you find offensive about it, exactly?

Personally, I find anything blatantly regarding sex that I have no choice about recieving, offensive. I don't need it shoved in my face, or my mailbox. Granted, if I got it in the mail I'd probably just recycle it.

But I used to love getting the mail from the mailbox after school...we had a low box, I used to go in first grade and get it and read all the flyers on the walk back to the house. What offends me about them wanting to send that out as ad mail, is that if my neices were old enough to read...they'd be doing the same thing on the way back from the mailbox.

What a useless party.

In a first-past-the-post democracy, you're not going to gain any seats by focusing on a single area of issues.

Tha'ts one ugly-ass pamphlet. I'm in full support of Canada Post here. I mean it's not like this party has a hope in hell anyway, and they know that. But hey, we have the Marijuana Party and used to have a party here led by Doug Henning that was going to solve all of our national problems using magic.

I don't think they are worthless. The sex-party shows that the mainstream parties are actually thinking about the future of Canada and not just the space between everyones legs. They put things in perspective.

You also have to have the party that is a gag party, even if they don't know that they are the gag party.

That's my biggest beef with lots of these parties. But if anybody votes for them, it means that the top three parties are so unappealing that people are willing to go for something so rediculous, and tells them they'd better clean up their act.

I partially agree with both side of the issue.

But I think if we are worrying about what sort of information/images that kids are being exposed to, I'd worry more about the crap on television than some ugly pamphlet.

When I was a kid I threw pamphlets and such in the junk pile without really looking at them and went straight for the comics in the newspaper.

One has a lot more control over what their kids watch on tv, than what they might pick up in the mailbox. And yes, ideally one could say that well the kids shouldn't be going to the mailbox then. But really, we shouldn't have to worry about porn randomly showing up unless one is in college and has retarded friends...

If their pamphlet focused on their POLITICS, and didn't have those pictures or random sex facts in it it would be a different story. Its a poorly designed pamphlet from a poorly designed party.

Wrong, it is a worthless party, all they are concentrating is sex based issues... nothing of economics, military, crime... NADA... it's not a platform, it's a few things a few people have problems with they are trying to build on.

Also, you might want to re-word what you said, as appearently 'mainstream' parties, according to you, are on the same track as this one? Nope.

It still should not be mailed to everyone, for everyone to see. Either they act like a proper policitcal entity (ie, logo, and no need for any sort of 'shock/graphic' imagery... or they get used to people telling them to stuff it.

There comes a time when silly is just silly, and the sex party is just that. Like when Mary Carey ran for Califonia gov.....
You can't have a viable party based on one issue.

The ran 3 candidates in the BC provincial election and I have yet to find any information about any candidates in the federal one. They are not a force to be reckoned with.

...and it is a rather ugly pamphlet.

1) That's a fucking hideous pamphlet
2) They appear to be a thoroughly useless party.
3) I don't blame Canada Post for refusing to mail the pamphlets.
4) Did I mention how completely retarded this party sounds? They're right up there with the Marijuana party. One issue parties piss me off.
