For people who never seen/played the game, the trailer proly is decent to you, but man.. as a fan and player of the Silent Hill series this trailer blew me away... they seem to have got it down to every detail of what this game series is all about, enjoy:

seems like they stole rather a lot of actual story elements from the game but it is really nice seeing the nurses.

Why couldn't the lead be a guy like the game? Because it's so "far-fetched" that a man could care about his daughter that much? puke

I've never played it, but they filmed some of the downtown, abandoned building-y stuff in my town, and goddamned if it didn't look friggin' awesome. Especially at night. So I'll go give it a look when it comes out, anyway.

God it looks so good. And so much like SH1. Yea, they changed the main character, and they gave her a husband, but it's Sean Bean, so that's awsome. They obviously changed a plot a bit too, but it looks to me like they've stayed so much more true to the game than any other game movie I've seen. I'm excited to see it. I mean, they already have the two most important elements of Silent Hill, fences, and mannequins in high heels.

the guy who is directing it is Christopher Gans, he directed Brotherhood of the Wolf (another excellent movie in my opinion) I read a few months ago that he became obsessed with Silent Hill filming this movie, he played the games over and over to make sure they got it right.
Every videogame based movie has sucked, I am hoping this one breaks that.

I'm actually ok with the main character being a female and with a husband/ex husband. It added more in the Ring with the main character having this ambivalent relationship with her ex, it had some connection to the story, and I can bet Silent Hill will do the same. 2) Silent Hill takes after the Japanses style of horror, in that the feel of the whole experience is this anxious feeling of vulnerability. Instead of having a huge, commando main dude character, a normal never-killed-a-fly (or has she???!) main character female makes the horror all that much more.. horrifying biggrin

I know. When I heard they were making House of the Dead that was just fine with me, since I figured "Cyborg zombies + government agents + mad scientist = cool. How can they possibly screw this up?". I mean, all they'd have to do was reenact a playthrough of the game, cutscenes and all, and it would be a passable action movie.

I spoke way too soon. Damn you Uwe Boll, damn you to hell!

Here, here!

I heard, not sure if it's true, that he'll never stop making movies. Seems there is some real wacky German tax loop hole he falls into or something. The way it works (I was told) is that if he makes a movie that does badly and fails in the box office (like they all do) Germany reimburses him. So then if he were to do well with one he'd still have money from it doing good. The only way he'd ever stopp is if he were to break even. They'll never stop! And I guess he buys the rights to all sorts of junk. Alone In the Dark, Bloodryane, House of the Dead, etc

Of course it will only use the story and visuals, which are just a part of the Silent Hill experience. A head-shakering demon in a straitjacket made of his own skin is disturbing the first time you see him, but after running back and forth several times past dozens of them, unscathed, while focused on a puzzle you may not even understand correctly, your situation starts looking less like tragedy and more like comedy. The only filmmaker who might know how to handle that is Woody Allen.

anyone here ever see Jacobs Ladder? That movie helped the creator of Silent Hill get ideas for some of the visuals, but I've seen the making of Jacob's Ladder and there's another film artist who originally started the whole "head shaking" freaky visuals... I forget his name, gonna go look it up

I agree
but chances are it's because they wouldn't be able to find some hottie to give the role to so they could market it to all the young impressionable fanboys. . . . .it's the same reason the Dead or Alive movie is only about those four girls (and not Ryu from Ninja Gaiden, HELLO!!!)

I write off anything video game based by default though. . .. .but if enough people I know tell me it's actually good, I might check it out on video.
