"i before e, except after c"

Get a ring and try it on to see if the look suits you. Proceed accordingly!

yes it can erode your gums away.. as soon as you can, try and get a smaller barbell or ring that will not rub against your gums so much.... it does hurt, and you can notive it if you keep watching...

I had mine in for a month and a half, had to take it out for a stupid dentist appointment, and it healed right up and over within the space of a day. So.... probably at least two months for it to heal. Only a few short weeks till it stops being easily irritated, though. Then you could probably put a retainer in so as to be more sneaky at your job. I'm no expert though, just going by personal experience. I just got a retainer when I went in to have it repierced, so we'll see how that goes.

And yeah, it can probably wreak havoc on your gums if you're not careful. So, be careful. Use non-alcohol mouthwash and try to keep your teeth and gums in otherwise good health.

i've had 5 lip piercings, and my latest is the vertical labret (first picture). it was the most painful and bled a lot. but i think it looks great.

i also enjoyed having 'snake bites', but if you're starting with piercings i say just go for the lip ring and graduate from there.

just do some research on it. Vertical labrets are becoming more popular and that is the one in the middle of Sid's lip. What I have is a standard lip piercing but since I wanted to be able to get away with hiding it if necessary I asked the piercer to put it as close to the bottom of my lip as possible and to pierce it as small as he could (he did it at 16 gauge). I now sport an 18 gauge labret stud in it and it's been wonderful!

hope that helped a little.

i have a good idea on what i want to get, the only problem that im trying to figure out is whats the best way to hide it? because i cant lose my job and it would be a 85% chance that i would get "let go" at my job for this, would a retainer hide it good enough or would it be even good enough for my boss not to have a problem with it? how long should i wait before putting in a retainer?

http://www.bmezine.com/ This link has a bunch of information on piercings and what they're called. It also kind of tells you what can go wrong with them and stuff. An I ment to say, the new way lips are pierced is done in such a way so that it will not touch your teeth or gums. Yay!

if you get a vert labret, it will be harder to hide for work, and a retainer will still be highly visable.alternatively i would suggest getting your lip pierced with a labret backing as apposed to a ring as it/s cleaner and heals faster, and you can also wear a clear retainer backing whilst you/re at work without screwing the ball on the end, thus making it less visible.

i work in a piercing studio and we say six to eight weeks proper healing.use salt water (not processed table salt however) and keep the piercing clean with that.avoid alcoholic wipes as alcohol prolongs the healing time.you/re labret may swell slightly, so i/d recommend leaving it in for a week before you swap to a clear retainer.

you can email me if you need more info or want me to go in depth into this matter

well i guess my best bet is to try my hardest to convince my boss to let me have one, i dont want to play around with it and switching too much between the ring and the retainer, i dont want to risk infecting it over some hiding bullshit, if he says no then i'll have to wait till i get another job frown maybe i can convince him since i can use my eyebrow piercing as a exsample... (hey if you can let me have one of these then i'll take it out for the new piercing like a switch) skull

Glasswear Studios makes quartz glass retainers. They're affordable, comfortable, stronger than pyrex, and completely inert (meaning you can autoclave them and even use them as initial jewelry). I used one at work for quite some time and not only was it more comfortable than any other jewelry I've had in my lip piercing, it also went completely undetected by certain higher-ups who frowned upon facial piercings in the context of their company.

I love the piercing like in the second pic, the ring. But I'm really anal about my teeth and oral health, so I doubt it's be good for me. I wish I could get a cool lip piercing without risking screwing up my teeth or gums. frown

Wow, you really are a fucking goof arent you. A lip piercing is worth more than your job? I really cant see them being worth that, only 20 cool points for a lip piercing. Why dont you get a nice scrotal ladder or something? Its worth at least 100 cool points AND you get to keep your job.

Nice topic. Been thinking about getting one on the side for about 10 years now. Ever since I saw a guy with it and thought it was freakin awesome. We shall see.

If you would rather not lose your job, dont get a piercing in the middle of your face.
