I'm tired of searching the internet, and I'm impatient.

I've decided today that after almost 3 years of vegetarianism, I'm going to introduce white meats back into my diet.

I'm unhealthy, I have a hard time remembering to take pills(vitamins), and I just haven't been taking very good care of myself in general. I'm thinking maybe a little meat may boost my health.

I haven't eaten red meat in 6 years and don't plan on eating it ever again.

Would anyone happpen to know the healthiest way to introduce chicken and turkey back into my diet?

I'm guessing that I'll probably feel a little sick the first few times I try to eat meat. But I want to know if there's a certain way to do it.

Any advice? Websites? ANything?????

Thanks guys! I'm afraid to do it, but I think it's best for my body eeek

Try chicken soup and light chicken satays to start with. Good luck, kiddo. It is the right decision.

Start slowly and see how you feel. Chicken and turkey are pretty light, so that's a good start, but you don't want to overdo it. I second the soup recommendation.

I did the same out of necessity, and I started with fish. I was expecting some sort of digestive problem, but I didn't notice any problem at all! That's just my personal experience. I believe I started out having "fish night" once a week for a while.. I suppose that kept me from over-doing it. I think the tendency is-- if you actually like meat, anyways-- you want to binge because you've missed it for so long.. So that's why people tend to have problems.

I was a vegetarian for 12 years before going back. Started with chicken only for a while, then introduced ham, but did not touch red meat for almost another 2 or 3 years. Soup is a good start, and also salads with little strips of chicken or turkey on them.

Maybe sandwichs with veggies and turkey breast? If the meat is lean and cut very thin it may be easier to take. Especially if you're being distracted by veggies and bread.

What are the expected health benefits of adding meat? For those that did the switch, what effects did it have for you?

health benefits of eating meat are several. First, white meat contains calcium, which most vegans are deficient in unless they take calcium dietary supplement, which are normally derived from animal products. Some vegetarians are also calcium devicient. Most meats are good sources of vitamins A, B, B12 and Thiamin which can be also obtained from milk and a large diet of vegetables. if one eats sparingly and is also vegetarian one is likely to be slightly deficient in any or all of these, as adults find it somewhat harder to metabolise milk and milk products.

I became quite ill after 20 years of vegetarianism, developed a bad auto-immune disorder and my thyroid was completely trashed from the soy. I was also borderline anemic despite doing everything right.

I woke up one day, decided to eat meat, drove to burger king, went through the drive through and ordered a whopper, ate it in the parking lot. It was so delicious I drove the the drive through again and ordered two more and ate them in the parking lot. I craved red meat for at least the first six months, i suspect for the iron.

Never had a problem getting back with the meat. We're tight now.

If I were you I wouldn't start eating chiken and turkey again.
Try just eating fish.
1) There is 10 times more protein in fish than any other meat
2)Fish has all the omega fatty acids you need
3)As far as I have read, there are no negative effects of eating fish
4)Most chickens at the time of slaughter have some form of cancer, not to mention all types of other diseases and antibiotics you don't want to consume.

Basicly the point I am trying to ge across here is that fish is infinitely better than poultry and if you are going to start eating animlas again, fish will give you everything you need. Just be careful with how much tuna you consume (mercury levels).

I'd totally go with Salmon. Some great recipes on the net for it. Just remember to buy Wild.

Ooh yes. What Alexsandria said. Fish is so good for you, and it's delicious. I grew up in a fishing town on Lake Huron, so fresh fish was a huge part of my diet as a kid. I miss it.

One time one of my friend and I decided to wrap some bratwurst in bacon and fry it, but we were kind of in a rush so we took it off the frying pan and put it in the microwave because my friend said that microwaving it would cook it just as well. I didn't believe him, so I threw the bacon away because it was still kind of raw but I ate the bratwurst, even though it was covered in raw bacon juice. I didn't get sick and hopefully I didn't pick up any parasites.
My suggestion would be not to eat any raw meat.

i hate to have to be the one to say it, but maybe taking better care of yourself would be more effective than eating chicken?

She asked for advice. I'm guessing d20, like me, probably believes that re-introducing meat might be the worst choice to try and improve your health.

she obviously feels that reintroducing meats into her diet would improve her health, or she wouldn't have asked for advice.

like most people said hun, fish is your best bet. it's nice and light, and ooooh so yummy. smile

She asked advice for reintroducing meat/chicken back into her diet. not for opinions on whether or not it's more. or less healthy for her.

i think you read more snark than i wrote. Abe's got it right... well, mostly. near as i can tell a steady diet of burritos, bacon, fuzzy peach slices, and vanilla coke would be the worst thing she could manage.

in terms of actual direct and hopefully somewhat helpful advice: being unhealthy isn't a symptom of not having white meat around - or any other single thing that can be remedied in one step. it's a sign of, well, being unhealthy. the way i figure it the world would be a healthier place if everyone followed the Three Demandments, the basic principles that Hulk Hogan required of the Hulkamaniacs. if we all remember the Prayers, the Exercises, and the Vitamins, we'll not only feel better but will also be able to run wild on the Macho Man Randy Savage.

or, to put it in a less sidelong fashion: eat a balanced diet and take your vitamins, then see how you feel. the smart money is on "much better".
