This is just for the publicity, plain and simple. That's all groups like PETA care about: exposure. It's easy to go after KFC. It's big, it's everywhere, people want to believe it's evil. Me, I just think their prices are evil. But I do enjoy the occassional snacker.

So, this is like those "Truth" anti-smoking campaigns, specifically designed to take an issue I might be sympathetic to and make me not care by associating it with retards.

teehee.

Ummm.... FYI, Truth is aimed at people who are too young to smoke. So whether you like it or not doesn't matter, you're not the target audience.

For every step forward PETA makes, they take two back in credibility. I'm a huge supporter of animal rights, but I wish the wackos at PETA would be dipped in blood and tossed into a cage full of ravenous jackals.

Penn and Teller's Bullshit! is an (HBO?) TV show that goes around disproving commonly accepted cultural, societal and political bullshit like PETA, the value of recycling, the benefits of a university education, New Age mysticism, the tabooness of cursing, and Mother Theresa. In other words, the purpose of the show is to strip away the veneer of misinformation surrounding our everyday lives and show us just how silly everything is.

Also, its simply fucking hilarious. ARRR!!!

Most members of PETA would choose the life of an animal over the life of any human being.

That's fucking scary.

Don't get me wrong, I love animals, BUT I'd pick your life over an animals' anyday.

Penn and Teller's Bullshit! is a Showtime show. It's possibly the best television series I've ever watched. The one on PETA is something everyone needs to see.

Ah right, cheers, I don't own a TV (I only download stuff) so I had no ideasmile Although it sounds like it would annoy the fuck out of me (Recycling is valuable as is a decent education).

This is fucking retarded. For one thing, KFC, Popeye's, AND Church's all get their chicken shipped to them from Tyson. As for other chains outside of Texas, I don't know, but my friend (who works at KFC) assures me that all the "cruelty" is taken care of offsite.

See, if they wanted to actually get something done besides make a clever graphic of a recognizable cultural icon brutally murdering a chicken, they could have at least done that much fact-checking. I have nothing against vegetarians of any color or degree, but when I almost have to pull over to the side of the road because my girlfriend wants to throw up all over the dash of my truck for seeing a slaughtered animal on a roadside sign that PETA set up, it kind of draws out those pesky and suspect "I'm a conservative talk-show host" "VegetariantongueETA::Islam:Taliban" analogies.

Militant (insert name of damn near any cause) sucks. I wish we could all just get along in peace.

But see - making the clever graphic thing is what garners your attention - or at least, it seems - the attention of your girlfriend. Of course it might go further to attack Tyson - who does all the "cruelty" but picking on them wouldn't gain as much media attention - attacking someone like KFC brings news stories, attention - which PETA hopes will simply raise the awareness of the common public - and hopefully some of those people will stop eating at KFC until they find a humane way to kill chicken.

I'm not saying it's a fabulous tactic - but that's why it's done, and I don't find it "retarded" - it gained everyone's attention in this thread, and countless others, for sure.

peta always hurts the cause it seems. while their information is true & informative, people just find them irritating. whenever i mention to people that im vegetarian, immediately i am attacked about peta. frustration! they are just like the catholic church, using extreme examples to prove a point. its still truth, but sensationalized.

i hate everyone!

I highly doubt it.

Sadly, this will likely not do anything beneficial for the cause, and probably only infuriate staunch anti-PETA people. "Oh, look, another dirty hippie. MMMMM, bloody meat!"

Actually, stainedecho is right, as far as PETA's leadership is concerned, at least. Except their one vice president who is diabetic. She doesn't seem to give as shit that insulin replacement therapy resulted from medical experiments on dogs...
