Hugo Weaving had a difficult task when he reteamed with the Wachowski brothers and their director James McTeigue on their adaptation of the Alan Moore and David Lloyd graphic novel V for Vendetta. James Purefoy had already filmed some scenes as V then was let go, giving Weaving only a few days to prepare before coming to set to replace him. But Weaving relished the challenge and rose up and according to reports from the first screening of V for Vendetta; they've pulled off an amazing film.

This is a superb graphic novel, one of the best things Alan Moore has ever created. I'm just wondering why he pulled his name off of it?

I think in part it may be because of bad experiences with previous film adaptations of his work (LXG is a travesty of a movie that should be buried in a very deep vault never again to see the light of day).

I dunno. I hope this one's good, but I just can't get my hopes up all that high, especially after the Matrix sequels.

I'm with you on this part - and in a way am surprised that Weaving so willingly threw his chips in with the Wachowski brothers again after those two pieces of cinematic refuse. I'll just cross my fingers and hope they pull off another work of art like the initial Matrix.

I'm a huge fan of the graphic novel. Personally I've been let down alot with these adaptation films. I just hope to god they don't screw it up. The fact that Alan Moore pulled his name off the project is not helping me.

Their first movie, Bound, was also excellent. So they've got a pretty even hit and miss ratio. We'll see.

V also doesn't have a name or even much of a backstory. How does one build him as a character?

One day I hope to see/read an interview where an actor is asked a similar question and they give the interviewer a glare and say something to the effect of "What the fuck are you talking about? I read the lines from the page. That's it. The character is already there!"

*yes, I realize that some/many actors need personal depth of character to give a more convincing performance, but I just can't buy that EVERY actor has such deep involvement with reading pages from a script-you hear this kind of response to any role in any film, be it heavy handed drama or schlock like XXX 2.

Jaraldyne, why wouldn't he throw his chips in with them again? If money is what motivates his decisions, then of course he would; maybe he actually liked the last two Matrix films, who knows. Besides, the W brothers...er, siblings....are only producing, not directing....

I'm betting that opening day for this film, if I sat outside a theatre the chorus I'd hear repeated by most exiting viewers is "I don't get it".....*sigh*

Yes, he moves and you see him flitting across the rooftops and things but he has a great stillness.

That's a very good way to put it. Good insight, Mr. Weaving.
As paranoid as I am that movie's going to be screwed up, little things like this give me hope.
