As you all know today was his last broadcast from radio as we know it. Curious how you all feel about that and if you plan to follow him to satalite.

I am already on satellite. It is not because of him.

I am glad he's gone but I am pissed that the Rock station that had him is replacing him with another morning bullshit show.. I prefer music to chatter,

I haven't been able to listen to him since ClearChannel took him off all its stations last year, I think because Gilbert Godffrey used the word "nigger".

I think his show is very entertaining and I listen to it regularly. I've had satellite radio for about a month now...I'll admit, it was him that put the bug in my ear to get it, but I'm actually really enjoying much of Sirius' programming. It's much better than broadcast radio.

I appreciate him for exercising his right to free speech and "going" where people would not go before regarding radio. However I do not like the fact that he intentionally portrays the sex workers that he books as guests on his show as nothing more than vapid, braindead cum dumpsters. Also the whole shockjock schtick is pretty tired...

Say as you will about his content and guests, he did basically pioneer the morning radio formats nation wide. Just about every show does something along the lines of his show, though they may not use it in the exact nature that he has. Hell, talk shows steal his creative staff and ideas on a rather constant basis.

Most people just categorize his show as talentless, tasteless crap and have listened to just small samplings from here to there. Few were around and listening as he was battling the proponents of free speech and driving his listeners to vote for senators and congressmen that believed the Bill of Rights was something more than expensive rolling papers. Radio lost its most marketable talent it has seen in its history, quite possibly that it will ever see. Content may be racy, but the sponsors lined up to throw money at Infinity Broadcasting for a taste of his vast audience.

Many like to disregard his entire show as shit jokes and porn references, but hey... if the people didnt want to listen they had a choice all along and millions of people chose to tune in on a daily basis for the past 20 years. Not too many people can say they did the same show for 20 years and were the highest rated in all the major markets they entered. He has been and will continue to be a hell of an entertainer. Thats what his show has always been about... giving the listeners what they wanted and putting on a good show while doing it. I'll miss him...until 1/9/06 when he hits Sirius and we hear him again... this time without the bullshit double standard FCC breathing down his neck every day.

Get an ipod and stop complaining. Good talk shows are few and far between nowadays, and even good DJ's are hard to find on the radio now. Everything is being replaced by robots and pre-selected playlists picked by lowest common denominator focus groups. I don't wanna hear the same 30-40 prescreened songs played over and over for months at a time in some sort of different shuffle each day.

At least with a talk show theres a person near the god damn microphone, and that is really the entire point.

I can't wait to see what sort of a train wreck Adam Corolla comes up with to replace Howard out here on the left coast. biggrin

I only heard him a couple of times when I was a lad, it didn't seem all that shocking or interesting to me. Maybe it's because I live in Montreal, home of the Strip Club - Church - Strip Club style of architecture. Whatever, if he thinks it can help his career advance I say good luck and don't make another movie.

Who said I defended Stern? I said there weren't many good talk shows around. This was in response to someone saying the talk show format in general was bad, not Howard. (Shut up and PLAY THE MUSIC!!!)

You can get music anywhere, anytime. You can take it with you, you can shove a memory stick up your nose if you are so inclined. It is now ubiquitous, all encompassing, portable, and cheap. On the radio, it only sells to a tiny segment of people, but these people buy lots of shit. Very shitty shit. So they like to listen to shit.
Hence most of the music on the radio is the same shit, over and over. People have been turning off their radios permanently for a long time now because nothing new ever happens and less and less interests them personally.
The radio market in general keeps shrinking, and the corporate suits who are now in charge have nothing but less-loss strategies.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I listen to talk format because I hate reruns.
