Let me clarify. I've never met Mini Meaney, does that mean I wouldn't rub his belly? No.
I've never met New York Matt, does that mean I wouldn't rub his belly, yes, but only because I'd be too busy rubbing his balls.
I think I have the wrong kind of friends.

My husband MrGoose and I have this conversation all the time. He says we have different definitions of the word "friend". There are several folks on my list that I would invite into my home, have a meal with, or and/or actually travel to meet. There are several that I just like, share a sense of humor with, share interests with, etc. I think in "real life", the same phenomenon occurs. Co-workers, acquaintances, friends of friends. myspace is just craziness.
I've met almost all of the people on my friends list here on SG. the other people on it generally are people I've interacted with extensively here on the site. I do routine purges, but for the most part, these are people I genuinely care about, and who I want to keep in touch with. I don't have hours free to make phone calls, and I'm a terrible penpal, so this is an easy way to keep abreast of what's happening in my friends' lives without too much commitment on my end, and without any real obligation to my friends.
