Ok, i missed work today because im sick and i cant really afford to miss another day, i have the average cold, but heres the thing, people are telling me two diffrent things, some people are telling me to stay home and get some rest and that would make me feel better, then the other half is like: no dude go outside and walk around, keep your body active, when you lay down and rest you can get even more sick because your body is off guard and thats when the germs attack and you get even more sick, so the more your active the more your body fights the germs... i have no idea on what to do shocked

You can get the lazy germ if you lay around.
tongue

I think maybe doing a bit of one, then a bit of other is good. Usually when I get sick, I just lay around feeling sappy, sick, and pathetic, and eventually end up crying from feeling so useless and vulnerable, which makes me feel even sicker. Then I get better a few days later.

no you shouldnt be active. you are tired when you are sick because your body is using all its energy fighting the ilness. eat lots, drink lots of water, and sleep lots.

your immune system doesnt get "off gaurd" because of rest. thats just retarded

Rest. Drink plenty of fluids. If you have a fever, take Tylenol.

Rest doesn't make you sicker. That is silly.

Chicken soup helps too.

To keep from getting sick:
Wash your hands after touching things with germs on them. (door knobs, your dick)
Don't get too close to people during cold/flu season.
Stop smoking.
Always get a full nights sleep.
Eat healthy foods. Take vitamins if you aren't eating so healthy.

Good luck with the SARS, Bird Flu, Syphillis.

I guess you could put a condom over a zucchini and be safe that way.

Jesus man, lay down and rest some! Running around when you're sick will only make it worse. That's why you take sick days--to stay home and REST!

Chicken soup helps too. And cookies. It's science. ooo aaa

I just read an article on the value of certain old remedies and their validity. In short, you really should feed a cold and starve a fever. Antibodies or something.

Can't remember where I read it, but it's been a while ago.... Supposedly the "starve a fever" theory was supposed to be bullshit because our body lacks the fuel to effectively fight whatever it is you're body is going up against. I don't remember the specifics, but it seems to me that malnutrition would only amplify any troubles you're already facing.

I don't think you starve it to the point of malnutrition, but i do think that the energy you burn digesting food could be used by the White Blood Cells doing their White Blood Cell Thing.

Or not, I'm no doctor.

My mum always says that, starve a fever stuff a cold... I also find having showers often makes you feel better too... probably something to do with the steam... I think my dad normally does the whole bowl of hot water with a towel of the head thing as a remedy because he doesn't do taking time off.

Chicken soup was recently scientifically proven to be good for you too, but I'm too lazy to Google it.

Get some rest. Definately.

For some reason I've had people tell me to be active even though I've got mono. I'm just like...have you no sense?! My roommate told me that his mom used to make him run up nd down stairs when he was sick. That's one of the only times my jaw has literally dropped. I've never heard of anything so ridiculous.

I've heard that if you run or excercise it will make it worse, since you then speed up the movement of the blood and it gets faster to the heart. This when you're sick is bad, because then the body doesn't have the necessary time to take care of bacterias in the blood.
