As a horror nut I first discovered Peter Jackson when Dead Alive was released on VHS tape back in the early 90's. After viewing that first film I knew Jackson was destined to become one of the great filmmakers. I immediately saw his other works such as the Oscar nominated Heavenly Creatures and Meet the Feebles. When his first Hollywood film, The Frighteners, was going to be released I thought that the entire world was going to discover him then. But I was dead wrong because that film tanked. But...

Absolutely not. But I do recommend you watch his twisted early stuff. As gross as they can be, they are extremely fun to watch!!! Especially MEET THE FEEBLES!

Excellent interview and a major inspiration for me and others to perservere in our careers!

Informative interview.

Missy got me The Frighteners Director's Cut DVD (which was previously onlu available on Laserdisc!) for Christmas. I would have, however, liked more Q&A about Brain Dead and Bad Taste. tongue

Fair enough.

Don't know how many of you people are fans of the original, but how do you feel about Jackson's decision to drop the following scenes:

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
The scene where Kong's arm goes through Ann Darrow's apartment window and takes her from the bed. Gone.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
Kong's fight with the pterodactyl. Also gone.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
Giant Snake vs. Kong, yeah that's been dropped, too.

I'm probably being pedantic.

It's just a movie. lol. But Peter IS a great film maker. As a person that has watched every minute of the appendices on the LOTR EE dvds (more than once) I understand his reasoning behind wanting to keep the crew together. And that part paid off - Kong LOOKS great. But it's not his best film. Even though I love the LOTR films dearly (read the books my entire life) I still think Heavenly Creatures is his best film. I'm not sure he can ever "top" the spectacle of LOTR...in fact, I hope he doesn't try. Something in between his early films and the more recent blockbusters would be great. Nice interview...but Pete's a pretty easy interview, really. Kong is good, but in no way is it perfect or genious or whatever superlative you want to throw at it. It's just a good escapist/adventure/romance movie.

And Peter is a really nice guy - I wrote to him just after the first LOTR, just telling him how I'd been following his career since 'Bad Taste' (the funniest sci-fi horror of all time bar-none), and he wrote back to me, making direct references to things I had said in my letter. Sent me a signed picture too, which was nice of him. Peter Jackson is so much better than Spielberg could ever dream of.

I think what would have been interesting if Jackson had taken another route for the King Kong Movie and had Kong take a a big shit while hanging out at the empire state... so I could have called that fiilm a big peice of crap!!! puke
