Science Daily is reporting on an experiment that suggests that an individual's activity level shows a genetic basis. From the article:

'Research conducted by scientists at the Oregon National Primate Research Center at Oregon Health & Science University reveals that a person's level of activity is likely an intrinsic property of that individual. [...] Overall, these findings suggest that it is likely to take a significant conscious effort to change one's level of physical activity and override one's intrinsic inclination to be active or inactive. To state it more plainly, if you're a couch potato, suddenly becoming active may be harder than you think,'

i dunno bout the rest of you guys, but this kind of sounds like they found the lazy gene...which means they found a gene that controls personality...how long before they find the rest and figure out how to manipulate them....after that it's a short step to manual predetermination...who knows...you may be able to order your baby in 10 years.... surreal or maybe i'm just paranoid....

Dude, I come from a line of inbred eastern European Jews. I already have tons of shit to blame on my genes, but being lazy isn't one of them.

So when my Mom tells me I'm lazy I can tell her I'm genetically predestined to inactivity and there's nothing I can do?

You don't know what it's like to be genetically predisposed to laziness!

Let me tell you!

After I've had a bit of a sit, and maybe some cake.

You mean the Simmons gene?

You're born with a long tongue and a desperate kind of bravura.

I don't quite think I believe this. I come from a family of energetic, go-get-'em, physically over-active drill sergeant-type freaks, and here I am at my computer eating Taco Bell feeling exhausted after sitting on my ass at work all day.
