not to sound insensitive but why do we care if the writer dies? its not like people even really cared before that they lived . if people really gave a shit they would have had a berenstain bears day and gave them a special tv biography on a&e.

I agree. Hey, dude that died: Give it rest!! You suck, and dying only confirms it.

That's depressing. From time to time when I'm in a bookstore I like to flip through books I read as a child. Those little bears were always on my list of things to flip... frown

At least with the old books (I don't know if they changed 'em), I even loved the way they felt. Something about the way the covers were or something--they just felt good in my lil' hands.

You point out several facts here:

The only way to express care and respect for someone is a national holiday and/or a televised biography.

Not caring that a person lived has nothing to do with caring about the works produced during the persons life time and that stop after it ends.

I went through most of my life thinking they were the Bearenstein Bears. Then in high school I asked my friend why a bunch of Jewish bears would celebrate Christmas and she set me straight.

Woah...you and me both. Except I never asked as I grew up with Jew/Catholic upbringing so I figured that momma bear just had parents who'd plotz if their grandbears didnt have christmas

I never liked those books. I think it's because when I was very young, I played with this Berenstein Bears toy and I hated the texture so much that it turned me off of anything to do with them.

My favorite was the one where Sister Bear is told not to speak to strangers and then she gets way paranoid and sees the world as a dark and evil place and then mama bear shows her that the twisted apple tastes the sweetest.

Very sad, the books were a big part of my childhood as well.

There may still be a few of them in the closet, mixed in with the dozens of old Hardy Boys books in there.

I think I still have the Christmas movie. I'll have to have my little sister watch it.

Heh, me too! I have a Jewish-y last name, but my dad's agnostic whereas my mum's Catholic, so we have the Christmas. I always reasoned to myself that it was the same thing. That's why Papa Bear got so involved in the aesthetics of the tree and making the house look rad: because it wasn't a religious holiday for him, just like my dad. Then Mama Bear has a conniption fit over him acting goofy, just like my mum.

Kids can be so reasonable. tongue
