The "ultimate artifact" from the recent incursion into Iraq turns out to be one of Saddam's uniforms according to the auction house that is selling it off.
Manion's International Auction House is offering the olive green dress uniform, complete with Saddam's special rank on its shoulder straps, at a starting price of $5,000, but expects it to sell for much more.
"We have only seen one other Hussein uniform here at Manion's, and it realized over $20,000 at auction," the auctioneer says on its Web site. Manion's said it would give a proportion of the proceeds from the sale to charity. Bidding closes on December 1. There have been no bids so far.
The uniform was allegedly seized by a soldier from the U.S.'s Third Infantry Division in April 2003. Soldiers are not meant to removed artifacts or souvenirs from any country except "in very rare circumstances" according to a US Army spokeswoman,
Husseins own `Mushir` rank slip-on shoulder straps with embroidered yellow eagle over laurel branches and crossed swords; red velvet tress. Also includes his familiar green and red twistcord aigulette. Woven red and white size 50 tag sewn to inner seam. Lot includes his matching trousers; also with a size 50 tag,
I question the sensibility of selling something like this off, even if it is for charity. Surely this is a museum piece?
well if it does do some good for charity then maybe. But why the hell would you want to buy something like that, Unless your name is prince harry and you need another costume for a party maybe, otherwise it should just be burnt.
This isn't a good idea, don't they know that Saddam's clothes are really intergalactic space creatures that take over the wearer and make them try to take over the world?
