Carnivàle (HBO, 2003 - 2005) is also my all-time favorite series and I'm still upset it got canceled after 2 seasons, but I also really love The Young Ones (BBC, 1982 - 1984).

That settles it. I'm putting Carnivale on my Quickflix queue right now.

" Showing my age here " , for me it's a toss up between Barney Miller & WKRP . Those two shows had the best comedy writing ever .
If I had to go non comedy , I guess I'd say X Files .
Oh shit , forgot all about Monty Python's Flying Circus . Truly ground breaking .

After mulling it over I land on The Sopranos. The Wire isn't quite as close to my heart. Buffy isn't as consistently fulfilling for me. In another five or ten years I might have a different answer (like "Mad Men" or "Breaking Bad.")
For comedy it's The Simpsons. Sopranos and Simpsons. I'm family-oriented.
