I've dislocated my left shoulder several times, first as a kid falling out of a tree, my arm got hooked on a branch on the way down. THen twice more during school. I ran on the track team, one of my events was the high jump...very easy to mess things up if you land wrong.
The doctors told me that having dislocated my shoulder badly once, it makes it easier to do it agian in the future because the joint becomes loose.

Sooo, sounds to me like you did indeed dislocate it. Still being able to use your arm after it pops back in is a good thing! When I did mine the first time, I was seven, the nurse held my shoulder, the doctor yanked real heard on my arm and I don't actually remember if I could move it after that, I passed out. biggrin

My advice to you...see a doctor. Even though it's popped back in, there be could be ligament or soft tissue damage and you really don't want to permanently weaken that arm. (My mom's an Orthopedic Nurse and I'm accident prone, you pick up a few things) smile

Thanks for all your advice guys, it's truly helpful. I haven't signed up for a doctor yet here and if I go to the Accidents and Emergency at the hospital, I'll wait for 5 Hours before they tell me to go home and take aspirin...

I will probably go to a doctor at some point and see what the word is on training. how long I have to stay out and what the damage that whatever I did caused.

I've been thrown wrong in jujitsu as well, and crashed a motorcycle at speed, both requiring a trip to the hospital.

Go see a doctor, and don't go back to jujitsu class until you are healed. Even if you didn't fully dislocate your shoulder, you may have partially torn or damaged cartilage, ligaments or tendons. It's quite easy to re-injure damaged areas if you subject them to stress before they are healed and you may make the problems much worse. Also, unadressed joint damage can lead to premature arthritis which can be permanent.

Yeah, I direct a club which is why it's been so hard to stay off the mat when I've been injured...

hah first post!

yadda yadda go see a doctor. even if you didnt dislocate it, you could have torn a ligament like someone said. and that is insanely painful. i have a lot of soft tissue damage and some torn ligaments from a car accident i was in last month. im still in physical therapy for it haha

I've dislocated my jaw several times, (not painful unless the ligaments get torn,) but never my shoulder, thankfully. shocked

what were u doing??? eeek hmmm ooo aaa

If I was, the poor bastard would have had to go to hospital: When dislocating, rather than opening further, my jaw clamps down and locks in place! biggrin

Yeah I would too If I were you... I'm confused about the heat or cold thing, everywhere I look says something different...

Yeah I train 4/5 times per week... It's worse than drugs. I was training on a partially torned Achilles (in the length, not in the width), a slightly strained muscle on my other leg and a strained muscle in my groin area. And I was thinking about grading for my next belt in 2 weeks (gradings are the most violent thing one might experience in his life). I guess what happenned is almost a good thing; At least now, I really can't go train... frown
