Alabama Governor Bob Riley called for a tourist boycott of Aruba to protest the handling of the Natalee Holloway case, and 75% of respondents are supporting it.

Three-quarters of Alabama residents back the governor's call for a travel boycott of Aruba to protest the island's handling of the disappearance of teenager Natalee Holloway. The poll, conducted by the Mobile Register and University of South Alabama and released Sunday, also found that seven out of 10 respondents would not travel to the Caribbean island even if they won a free trip.

If you're unaware of the specifics of the Holloway case, you obviously don't watch nearly enough Fox News. Good for you.

i hate to say it, but i agree with alabama. natalee holloway's parents aren't asking for impossible measures to be taken, they're asking the aruban government to help them recover their daughter's body.

i've been shocked that in all of the news articles i have read, not once have i seen holloway's parents blame anyone for the dissappearance of their daughter. and now for the aruban government to not do anything for them is....wrong.

Weird. So, do I have this straight? The governor of Alabama thinks that all foreign places should conform to Alabaman legal standards? If so, he has delusions of grandeur, and all those anti-UN people should be on his case.

"Alabamans" makes a hell of a lot more sense, but then again, it's Alabama.

Why don't you talk about your cock some more?

Edit: Oh yeah, by the way

But the Aruban and Dutch governments have put forth considerable efforts at significant expense. When's the last time the state of Alabama diverted military aircraft to search the outskirts of Montgomery for the remains of a missing child?

And it's not uncommon for bodies to go missing for months or years or never be found. I mean, look at the Chandra Levy case. The search went on for months until a jogger just accidentally stumbled over her corpse in a park that had been searched over and over.

It's a consequence of blanket cable coverage out of proportion to the story, and giving the parents a lot of camera time. I mean, if I were in their situation, I'd be saying much the same things. But, sometimes, it's just hard to find a body, and you can pour all the resources you want into it -- for whatever reason, you just don't find it.

I was so going to say that. Actually, I was going to say that way less than a quarter of Alabamans could even afford to go there.

exactly, we've done just about anything to find that girl right down to infra red sweeps with squadrons of fighter jets to find that girl.

and what did we get in return? some incredibly vile comments from that mother. (she called us a entire nation of criminals, drugusers and whores for one thing including some choice words on what should happen to my country if it were up to her)
that woman is completely insane.

people disappear, sometimes they're never found back, deal with it don't start some kind of weird crusade against the very people that tried everything to help you.

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking when I saw this on the news last week.

See, Aruba is foreign and scary and because they are not making this their #1 priority that must mean they are trying to cover up for one of "their people".

last i heard of her on the news was someone saying she's a sex slave in some south american club now. surreal

wouldn't it be less risky and cheaper to just hire willing women rather than abduct one from a different country.

I have a decent bit of family in Alabama, most of which I haven't spoke to in years. They don't go very far outside of Alabama. The closest thing to Tropical that they may have been to is maybe Destin, FL.

My point it, they really know how to stick it to Aruba.

I don't care if the Holloway kid was pretty or not, I don't watch Fox news (or have a TV), and it doesn't matter to me whether Alabamans like or dislike Aruba, or whether they would go there if they won a free trip. But from all the reports I've read, the Aruban police totally botched the investgation, even if they had lots of copters flying around afterward.

I don't see why the governor is so upset. I mean with Dr. Phil on the case this thing should be solved by sweeps.

Last I heard Phil wanted Aruba's government to investigate the sex slave angle. (Because nothing gets ratings quite like unsubstantiated claims of white slavery)
