Please stop using the following:

b/c- abbreviation for because.
example: she said we were mad ugly hos b/c we have tattoos.
reason: spelling out because or just saying cuz is adequate, and that slash just makes no sense. slashes cannot be used for ellipses.

lol- short for laugh out loud, often used as a nonsensical interjection.
example: these girls are hot lol. i think you are dumb lol. don't listen to this girl lol you are mad hot.
reason: it makes no sense. just say, haha. also, would you seriously say that you are laughing out loud in the sentences above? lollerskates and lollercoaster are pretty funny though.

/me in place of I- not sure what the fuck this is supposed to signify.
example: /me rims al and swallows juices (this is a real example, i did not make it up like the above).
reason: again, this makes no fucking sense. why can't you just say "i rim al and swallow juices" if you insist on doing that mmorpg talk? why the slash? *rims al and swallows juices* is also an acceptable substitute. the /me just sounds like idiotic enamored sixth grader txt talk.

thank you.

My friend and I were going to try an mmorpg, we'd go around murdering people on the spot if they used leet or any other bastardization of english, and establish a clan or some such thing to continue the tradition. The one we were looking at only had consentual PvP fighting, sigh.

Yep. That's probably the only one on the list I'd mildly disagree with, since the "/me" command on IRC creates a "*myname..." sentence in most competent IRC applications. For example: I type "/me yells at things just to hear the echo," and in the channel, people will see "*bean yells at things just to hear the echo*." The *does something* convention is actually a contraction of the standard IRC action phrase convention.

I only use "LOL" when I'm being sarcastic. But even that is getting sort of obnoxious, I think.

Worse than 'lol' is when people decide to show they find it really really funny by typing 'lololol' or any other variation - as far as I am aware, this translates as "laughing out loud out loud out loud" and is completely moronic.

abrieviations i know for when your laughing hard, and LOL isn't enough to express that are: LMAO - laughing My Arse/Ass Off; PMSL - Pissing Myself Laughing; ROFL - Rolling On Floor Laughing
there are more, but stem from MSN Chat Rooms (which no longer exist smile ) and are not worth going into.

If everyone listened to this man, the quality of all our lives would be drastically improved.

Okay, not really, but I wouldn't be as annoyed on a regular basis.

Agreed. b/c doesn't work the same way as j/k because "just kidding" is actually TWO words. I don't use j/k anyway...

But you said slashes cannot be used for ELLIPSES? An ellipse is like an oval. So I'm not seeing how a letter 'e' is an ellipse. If that's even what you meant.

b0cause???

I try to only use 'LOL' if something is *legitimately* funny. And I don't use it right in the middle of a sentence like that; there's at LEAST a comma to separate them.

I don't typically say "haha" because ... heh, I don't know. It just doesn't work so well for me.

And I don't say "lollerskates" and shit like that because I have a reputation. smile

Then allow me to explain.

In several chat programs, typing "/me" will post your user name over the chat window, in a different color text, indicating an actual event announcement rather than just usual text. That's why "/me" statements are always in the 3rd person.

If I said:

/me kicks Mike in the ass, then runs away, covering his head and screaming like a little bitch.

...That would be posted in a different color/style font, and it would say:

MXV kicks Mike in the ass, then runs away, covering his head and screaming like a little bitch.

So there's your /me.

/me feels proud to have set the record straight. smile

I think she knows. The point is that this isn't chat, this is posting on a messageboard. What you're typing just looks stupid in that context when you could just type one letter instead and have your sentence make sense.

Well, assuming you want to make a humorous comment, it works better in the 3rd person.

So I suppose the stars do suffice for this, but they might not work as WELL as some people might like.

...And she did say that she didn't know where it came from.
