So it appears that one man in Britain has has rid his body of the HIV virus.

A spokeswoman for Chelsea and Westminster Heathcare Trust in London confirmed that one of its patients had tested negative for HIV about 14 months after testing positive in May 2002.

This would mean that there's a chance for the rest of the AIDS world. Any antibody that they find will be engineered to help those with AIDS try to beat it in their body too.

Good luck to them.

However, the first test result could have been a false positive.

Go go gadget science brain.

He tried to take legal action against them because he felt the results were wrong but they claim they were 100 % right in the tests they did.

Its been said that something like 10% of europeans have a natural immunity due to some connection between it and the plague.

Yup, and a lot of african (Nigerian?) prostitutes also have developed immunity to the disease.

It was more than likely a false positive. The money is not in the cure for AIDS, it's in the medicine that slows it progression. There will never be a cure unless a worse disease comes along.

Sadly, they loose that immunity if they stop being exposed to the virus. Then they can catch AIDS.

Yeah it's a genetic mutation that prevents the virus from being hosted into the blood stream. I saw something about it on the Discovery Channell.

wow. I hope they can engineer something that truly works to stop the virus. the vaccine they're working on (there's a study being conducted in SF) will be great, but it'll be bets if they can cure as well as prevent.

AFAIK the hospital who did the tests used DNA testing to prove that it was his blood they had tested positive and not somebody elses. + he had been diagnosed HIV-positive for 14 months, which is plenty of time to do lots of control tests. It is standard procedure to do a second test quickly after the first one showed a positive, to prevent people from living in unnecessary fear if the first was a false positive. I strongly doubt that they waited 14 months to do the control test.

Looks like the real McCoy to me. Imagine what you sex life would be like without the fear of AIDS... love

EDIT: 14 months, not 6.

My favorite part of the article?

Patrick Dixon, a doctor and HIV expert, told Sky News this was the first time someone had kicked the virus out of their body.

"(AIDS) is a hugely significant problem which at moment we have no cure for," said Dixon.

Wow, he must be an expert!! Thanks for the new info, doc.

AIDS is not what you should fear above all else when it comes to a promiscuous sex life. there are plenty of other sexually transmitted diseases that kill much faster... or at least are disgusting and incurable... herpies simplex comes to mind.

AIDS is not a virus people. It stands for Auto-Immune Deficiency Syndrome. It is connected to HIV... but there are zero clinical trials that link AIDS to HIV. Not to say it is not a problem... but the worldwide pandemic... has never happened. there is a lot of hype... because there is a lot of money in the research.

No, the Nigerian prostitues have a mutant form of the chemokine receptor HIV uses to infect T cells. They never got HIV to begin with. I'm guessing this guy got a false positive on his original test and was never infected to begin with either. The whole thing sounds dodgy. He's refusing to let anyone run any further tests on him to support his "miracle" claim.

Edited to add: My bad, that BBC article claims something different about the Nigerian prostitutes..

Acutally, it's Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, and I'd like to see some peer-reviewed journals and studies to back up your claims.
