I just watched Reefer Madness for the second time in three nights. I guess it's one more movie I like that almost noone else seems to have noticed. Anyway, it's probably even better on DVD that in the theatre, as the DVD has the original 1936 film upon which the play/movie is based, and it's pretty interesting that the original film was so absurd that making a spoof of it, they could just copy a lot of the original material more or less directly. Anyway, the present day version is immensley entertaining and sexy.
i thought Spun was crap. after hearing so many people enthusiastically saying it was fantastic, i rented it, and i was not impressed in the least. it was dull and ugly. granted, it's an ugly subject, but for the most part it was dumb. i only kept watching it cuz Jason Schwartzman.
i have to watch Naked Lunch. i read the book when i was in high school (no idea why i decided to read it) and liked it but thought it MUST be all metaphorical and whatnot and apparently the film translation is pretty much literal. soooo my boyfriend's got it from netflix. i can't wait to see it.
Requiem is all right, a little overrated, but lots of images really stick with you. Fear and Loathing is just straight-up awesome, but everyone already knows that.
i tried watching Reefer Madness once and got bored pretty quickly. no, wait, i think i've seen it twice. never bothered to watch the remake. it's a little interesting as far as what it is goes, but is really pretty boring to sit through (even when baked, i just completely lost interest).
Blow, depicted the realities and lifestyle of large scale drug dealing accurately to a frightening degree.
Cheech and Chong 1 & 2 were classic and fun,
a coked out PeeWee Herman is hilarious here.
Like the movie or not, refer madness and a few movies like it show the sad reality of the perverse eradication of marijuana that began in the 1930s and the politics behind it.
Naked Lunch grahically explains the insane psyche and unreal world of hard core drug abusers, much weirdness will not be truly understood by those who have not addicted and on drugs for a continued tenure.
For old time fun I actually like Psyche Out starring a young Jack Nicholson as "Stony" (who is righteous but not very hip) in a cationary tale about the dangers of MDA, or (a precursor to the lighter weight ecstasy) psychedelic speed. The 60s cliches are in hardcore effect and young Nick is on his game as always.
