i believe that i've clipped a cat and full on tagged about 3 or 4 squirrels.

one time when i was 16 i was in a hurry because i was late for work. our dog was getting older at this point and it was taking longer and longer for her to get up from lying down (amongst going deaf and blind). when i ran outside she was under the back of my car like usual, but was in too big of a rush to try and coax her out. i simply figured that she'd move into the yard once i started the engine. i waited for a few seconds after i started the car and then began to creep back slowly. to my horror though i felt the back of the car rise up along with a horrible yelp. i put it into drive and couldn't have blasted forward fast enough. she had a bad limp for the next day or two. i felt attrocious.

i think that reagan owns this category though.

A squirrel once, basically we second guessed each other.

I've had two friends get hit by cars, one was basically just knocked off his bike as a guy backed out of his garage, the funny thing is the guy just drove back inside, closed the garage door and didn't answer the door.

The other rolled over the car, the lady driving it got out and asked if he was ok, but being somewhat dazzed and confused he mumbled i think so. The lady promptly got back in her car and drove off. He was ok though, not even a bruise. Hmm, it was a lot funnier when he told it.

My Mom hit a dog many years ago, because someone abondoned him in a highway ( eeek !!!) He was really injured so she put him in the back seat of her car and took him to our veterinarian. He lost a lot of blood and he was missing part of a vein (which we later found on the backseat puke ) but after a lot of surgery and love he survived smile So we kept him and named him Techno, after my Mom's car - "Ford Techno" biggrin

My experience is pretty hard to recount, even after several years. I used to have a long commute - about an hour - mostly through rural areas. One morning, while it was still very dark, I was motoring along the highway when I saw a flash of motion coming from the right. Turned out it was a pack of about 6 wild dogs. I ran right into the group of them, killing four of them and injuring one severely. The other just stood around and went animal to animal, nudging them. It was awful. When I called for a wrecker and the cops, they really seemed pretty ambivalent. What a horrible experience.

Yea,
In wyoming and the high dessert Jack Rabbits bread like, well, Rabbits (or humans). About once a year thousands of them just appear on the sides of the road. They run with your car, and then they dart left and right in front of it. One night there were so many I hit two, I was pretty upset about it to tell you the truth.

Then this summer we hit a phaesant going seventy miles an hour. It just popped up out of the bushes and flew right into our car. Their were feathers everywhere. I wanted to keep him and eat him, but we didn't have room in the vehicle of a garbage bag... frown

I hit a squirel with my car, I tried avoiding him but there was snow on the ground so I couldnt slam on the brakes. I got him in between my wheels so I wouldnt run him over but I guess he lifted up his head and hit the bottom of my car. I felt like shit for about 2 weeks frown

my mom hit a bird once and i freakd out but there was nothing she could have done. if i'm driving through town and a squirrel or duck or whatever wanders into the road i'll slow down or even stop until they figure out where they're going. i hate running over roadkill. i was driving my boyfriend and myself back to our old apartment one night and we were on the highway. there was a bloody mess of something out in the road and i couldn't avoid going through it. i swear i could smell the blood for the next few miles, it was gross.

the closest i ever personally came to hitting anything was one night when i was driving back to the apartment from my parents' house. i had already noticed a fox run across the lanes so i knew animals were active that night. then about 5 minutes later a fucking deer was standing in my lane. i was the only car i could see going my way so i tried to swerve into the other lane. i also tried to slam on the brakes (which i know is a bad idea) and ended up with my car facing the outer guard rail. i thought for sure i was going to hit it and then have an accident that i couldn't pay for , but i stopped about an inch or two away from it. sat there shaking for a few minutes until a trucker pulled over, convinced me to turn my car out of the road, and i was able to follow him to my exit.

Driving the Al-Can highway from Anchorage down to Saint Paul I or my dad hit a porcupine, a dead porcupine, a rabbit, and narrowly avoided two great snowy owls and a mule deer or three.

the great snowy owls are fucking terrifying. They sit on the road eating roadkill or mice or something, and as you pull up to them doing sixty this massive five foot wide ghost shape leaps up out over your windshield and disapears into the night.

And we spent the whole trip through North Dakota leaning out the windows with high powered flashlights trying to spot deer before they got too close after a couple tried to cut us off.

Hitting a dead porcupine had a funn side effect. I guess someone else had hit him a few hours before, but I ended up having a couple of hundred quills in my truck tire for several months after that.

Someone had their two dogs in the back of a truck and they jumped out on the highway. I saw one of the dogs get run over and scamper away seeming unharmed. No one was really trying to avoid running over these dogs. Thankfully the friend driving me was sane enough to pull over his car until the dogs were caught.

Boy I hate people who have animals in the back of trucks and dont have them tied in . Fucking idiots . However , it was a good thing everyone stayed calm though . I would hate to be in a 20 car pile up because someone freaked out and slammed on the brakes at 65 mph and slid into everyone around them . I am a dog owner and animal lover , but during a situation like that I would rather run over a dog than cause a huge accident and maybe injury to others .

When I was 6 I was in the truck with my dad when he accidentally ran over my puppy. The puppy was under the truck and we saw him run out before my dad started the truck. He must have snuck back under without us seeing him before my dad backed out. The obvious "bump" didn't mess me up so much as getting out of the truck and seeing the puppy gasping for it's last breaths. Just thinking about it still freaks me out to this day. frown

that is sooo sad!!!

I'm always terrified of hitting my boyfriend's bordercollie, because when I pull up his driveway (which is usually in the dark) she comes tearing out from behind the house to say HI and usually runs directly in front of the vehicle or tries to jump up on the side. She's Black....its nighttime....I have no headlights and I'm driving a truck... come on now!

Needless to say....I drive very carefully for the last little bit.
