I was coming off a ramp on the highway and kinda spacing out and then I saw two little glowinng eyes and stopped in time to see a little grey kitten scamper into the bushes. I still had like 10 panic attacks, even though he was fine. Just the thought of what "could have" been. Ever had some close calls? or frown Even worse actually hit a little(or big) guy?

I hit a squirrel once. He ran out onto the highway, hit the concrete barrier and turned around, running underneath my car. He went pop... It was 8 years ago and I still remember the sound. frown

I had a squirrel who was unable to decide which side of the road to run to, ended up under my truck tire. The worst part was the aftermath, where it's back was sunk in where the tire ran it over. Despite being mishapen, it still attempted to crawl across the road. I felt pretty sad about it.

Months later I hit a turtle crawling across the interstate. That shell exploded like a bomb went off. I don't know if their innards are under some kinda pressure or not, but it seemed so.

Bird. Off my windshield while driving. I didn't hit it, so much as it flew into the car.

When my mom was driving me to a driver's ed class when I was 16, two dogs ran out in the road and we hit them. It was horrifically traumatic, especially considering that my mom and I love dogs far, far more than we like people. Luckily, they were not hurt at all - what was worse is that we went to the house where they had run from and their owners didn't seem concerned at all. It was so awful though. I still had to go to driver's ed because I would have been disqualified from passing the class if I even missed one night - but I cried through the entire thing.

Not yet...they're all too fast for me.

No, just kidding. But there seem to be a ton of rabbits in my neighbourhood, and I can't bring myself to squoosh a rabbit...so I keep avoiding them. Even when it seems like they're trying to run under my tires, those little fuzzy jerks...

I hit an armadillo or a possum (not sure which) on freaking prom night, the night I ended up losing my virginity. We actually didn't go to prom, we just borrowed my grandma's van and went cruising around out in the country for a place to park and make out. Before we found one, the aforementioned critter ran out in front of me and then stopped dead in his tracks. The road was too narrow to swerve around him, there wasn't time to stop, so I tried to go over him with the middle of the car, hoping he was low enough not to get hit. Unfortunately, he either jumped, or the van was too low to the ground, because I heard the thump. My girlfriend, in the passenger seat, started freaking out, crying and going "Ohmygod, ohmygod". Needless to say, I just took her home. But by the time we got back, she had calmed down enough to invite me inside, where I gave her the greatest twenty seconds of her life.

I felt bad, but finally rationalized it as being bad timing. It was out in the boonies, so I figured the squirrel probably had nothing to fear. I hoped it would die fast.

And that it had no family. frown

When I was 6 I was in the truck with my dad when he accidentally ran over my puppy. The puppy was under the truck and we saw him run out before my dad started the truck. He must have snuck back under without us seeing him before my dad backed out. The obvious "bump" didn't mess me up so much as getting out of the truck and seeing the puppy gasping for it's last breaths. Just thinking about it still freaks me out to this day. frown

The worst I ever felt about killing an animal in my vehicle was actually after I stopped my old truck. I got out and stepped right on a poor little toad with my big Doc Martens... frown
