And all the safety equipment makes it impossible to revel in the violent aspect of the game too.

Haha. Keep in mind that we often pay around $100K to get to that point.

As for the NFL...it's not my favorite sport, but I enjoy it sometimes. And since my passion for MLB runs deep, I can understand others' attachments to the NFL.

Oh, and go Patriots.

why do you live with a muscle-head?
Why doesn't he watch it with his other football watching brethren?
Why don't cancel the cable, so he can't watch as many games?
If you can't cancel it, stop paying your share.

as for pro-football, it's no different from any other televised sport, and considerably less over-hyped than baseball, basketball and arena football. Pro-football thrives on appearing un-pretentious, so they don't lie about it being mostly about money, endorsements and beer.

i can't really be a dick about it, because I love Adult Swim, and watch it every day, and he hates all the shows on it, so it kind of balances out. i just hate listening to stupid announcers blathering on all day about punt returns and other football bullshit minutia.

did i spell that right? ?Minutia?

No I was just trying to snarkily point out the fact that "throwing a ball around" may be a gross oversimplicication of what football players actually do. wink

As far as pay scale goes, most of the other popular "pro" sports pay much better (in the 20-40 million dollar range, compared to 2-8 mil for top football players)

Plus, in football if get injured, they stop paying you. When you retire you are lucky if you don't have recurring brain trauma from concussions.

After you play basketball for 15 years you get creaky knees/ankles. oooohh what a pain in the ass...

sorry you can't enjoy football with your roomie. and that it upsets you so.

but today was a KICK ASS day for football all around. damn this whole weekend was full of spectacular plays even in the NCAA it was great!!!!! there were soooo many bone crunching plays going on today i was in heaven. even when it was being made against my teams i was so like "oh my god did you hear that hit?!?!?!?!" we couldn't stop flipping back and forth through the channels the whole time.

and i could NOT fucking believe that we lost to the Texans.... wait... yes i can. i grew up with the browns so sadly; yes i can.
whatever

and who the hell told the Bengals that they could kick ass soo much? because i'm completely shocked about what the hell i'm watching. i love it that's for sure but i'm still amazed at the plays i'm seeing.

is there a college football group on here somewhere that i've missed? because this week has crazy.

That's how I am now, too. I'm not a Bears fan, but my Eagles aren't exactly themselves this year. But the White Sox victory could probably sustain me for a decade. A few weeks ago I was ready to tear my hair out. Now it's like, fuck, shit, whatever.
