K, I did a search, and while there are a few threads on this movie, they are all mostly about debating commercial vs. independent films and sex in mainstream films.....Thats all good and great, but what I'm curious about, is if the movie is any good? Should I bother to rent it? I was flipping through my VOD service, and saw this movie come up, but the trailer available for it was less than informative, and while what I've read about it on the web makes it seem interesting, I want some real ppls point of views.... Is this movie worth renting, or should I just go on about my business and pretend like I never heard of it? Thanks.

This is what the Onion AV Club has to say about a very underrated movie, in their opinion:

Whenever the words "worst ever" are used in association with anything, there's usually something uniquely compelling about it, some estranging quality that sets it apart from more genteel, middle-of-the-road fare. Few films speak to this phenomenon better than Vincent Gallo's The Brown Bunny, which debuted to infamy at the Cannes Film Festival, got pounded repeatedly by the gossip press, and opened with a tired whimper. And yet Gallo's wounded road odyssey looks and feels like nothing else on the independent scene, especially once it hits the open highway and soaks in the vast, lonely expanse of the American landscape. Essential viewing for the recently heartbroken.

But then again, Roger Ebert has this to say.

A very talented egomaniacal twat. The Brown Bunny was pretty good, but Buffalo '66 was entirely brilliant.

all of you obnly liked the Brown Bunny cause it has a full on blowjob scene in it.

and it's for the same reason stuck up semi-intelligent jackasses laude the movie "kids " so much cause of the graphic sex and sexual overtones,

the truth is, both of these movies were/are terrible.

I didn't like Kids. Much. Casper was a great character, though.

The Brown Bunny worked, but it would have worked just fine without the blow job. It didn't contribute anything that a less-graphic scene couldn't have accomplished just as well.

didn't like 'kids'.
'gummo' makes me twitch.
'happiness' was really not.
'buffalo 66'? meh.

etc etc.

'the brown bunny'? one the most quietly compelling movies i have ever seen. i describe it as a landscape painting, one of a horizon with a mountain creeping up on the right hand side after many miles of flat but beautiful plain. the mountain has three notable peaks. each are breathtaking.

A friend of mine had a copy of this, and honestly, after reading all the reviews, I just went to Scene Select, Blowjob. It was a good blowjob, both well given and well received. It included all the necessary porno blowjob references like "Yeah baby you like suckin my cock?" and "Mmmhmm." Gallo is even considerate enough to move the hair out of her face for the camera.

Random thoughts while watching:

- Chloe is hot...

- I don't like Chloe's hair in this...

- Mole titty!

- I think I had a belt like that in High School...What did I do with it?

- I need to watch American Psyco again. Maybe I should rent Dogville...

- I wonder how many people were in the studio while this was being filmed?

- I really hope this has not hurt her career.*

- Wasn't Gallo in Trouble Every Day? What the fuck was up with that movie? I really hope this hurts his career.

* It has not. Went to IMDB and she has over 6 projects in the works or completed since biggrin

i saw it and i liked it. i'm not in the mood for making a rant to justify that right now though. surfice it to say, the bj scene has nothing to do with the reason why, but then again, i race motorcycles more often than i get head.

If you liked it, you should probably see Two Lane Blacktop a much better, but equally as slow film about two guys driving around. Directed by Monte Hellman, and starring Dennis WIlson, James Taylor, and a fantastic Warren Oates.

See it.

Gotta concur... I'm pretty sure Gallo made that movie happen just to get a bj from Chloe Sevigny

All the best movies have blowjob scenes. Nothing improves a movie like a good blowjob scene.

The whole thing is a travelogue until he gets blown in the end. Actually in retrospect the last 10 minutes would have made for a brilliant short film (and I'm not just talking about the blowjob here) Because it's the only part of the film with any real story or emotion.

Considering Gallo & Sevigny used to be an item, the movie probably wasn't necessary for that purpose. Unless he just really missed Chloe's bjs after they broke up, and the movie was an elaborate ruse to get one more...

1. An excerpt, quoting myself from a "review" in the film group, and yes, I am a tireless Gallo supporter:
The film is about the loss of whatever love there was, reguardless of reason, and one individual who travels aimlessly alone to escape himself and his misery, embedded in fantasy, hoping to find some trace of that love somewhere along some undirected way. In any random person, just a sense of that being---longing for the loss of whatever the love.
The climax is the ultimate achieval of the fantasy aspect of the film, which it is built on. The entire film is a fantasy. The ending fantasy is the ultimate, of utmost desire and intimacy.
And it ends as cold as the dream began.

Something like that.

2. It's a semi-shocking film. Really fucking long with no dialogue, like you need a warning like this to possibly enjoy it. It's the last 10-15 minutes that brings flesh to the story, and the final 5 that turns the previous hour and whatever on its head. I was amazed. It is also pretty f'ing depressing. Perhaps not a date movie.

smile

Edit, if that sounds too romantic/artfag, his cock is as big as a car.

actually, not at all. it's why he gets the blowjob and what happens afterward that's numbing. i came very close to crying, actually. i was watching it with keira, we were kind of amiably chatting, admiring the hotness of vincent, and then all of a sudden, silence, and a sincere emotional payoff.

i am definitely going to purchase it and watch it again.

i think if you think it's a movie about a blowjob, you must be ridiculously dense, or you just watched the blowjob scene for titilation--it makes me sad that that's something that people have done.
