You know, this morning I got up on the left side of the bed and it was raining. I wish I had gotten up on the right side, becasue then it would have been sunny.

In other news, only morbidly obese people eat over three times as many calories per day, every day, than they need to live. What a coincidence, huh?

The study does jump to plenty of conclusions though.

Tom Smykowski: It's a "Jump to Conclusions mat". You see, you have this mat, with different CONCLUSIONS written on it that you could JUMP TO.
Michael Bolton: That's the worst idea I've ever heard in my life, Tom.
Samir: Yes, this is horrible, this idea.

Couldn't this also mean that stupid people are more likely to smoke?

Not a very scientific study whatever

Dont get me wrong I hate smoking in general, it's just that this seems kinda half-assed to me.

Not particularly. The only causal relationship stated is from the Reuters writers, not the author of the study itself. See the final part:

The reason for the observed associations is unknown, and the researchers did not investigate the "cause and effect story," Glass said, but she speculated that the diminished cognitive ability among smokers may be partly due to some mechanism involving a restricted flow of blood and oxygen to the brain.

Based on the current report, Glass said, "if you need another reason to quit smoking, it's a good potential one to add to the list."

Science journalism just isn't very good about illustrating the difference between speculation and outright statement of fact.

This fits in with my personal philosophy on drugs, which is somewhat based on a line a heard some years ago (I forget who said it), that only smart people should do drugs, they're the ones that can afford to lose some brain cells.
I won't miss 'em. Fuck off, you little bastards!! *smokes*
