goddamn nazis fucking my town up!!!

today a bunch of piece of shit neo-nazis decided to go "demonstrate" in an all black neighborhood here in my town. the result? a fucking riot and at least one building and one car set on fire. there was even a curfew in effect in half the city because the cops didnt want people running all over and fucking eachother up.

This thing was no surprise. Americans have proven time and time again that they loooove to riot and just go batshit crazy at the drop of a hat. Winning an NCAA championship? Grounds for a riot. Winning a professional sports title? Grounds for a riot. Public school laptop sale? Riot. Disagree with a verdict? Grab a brick, it's riot time. Natural disaster levels your city? Fuck it, let's go nuts. You can loot and I will handle the burning.

Funny thing is, Americans are not as wild as they used to be. Check the history books for the kind of shit that used to go down.

Where's Indiana Jones when some Nazis need shot?

I'm no Nazi, but I'm very pro-speech. I don't think that it should be illegal to hold or express those views (as abominable as they may seem), or to demonstrate against gangs, as was the group's alleged purpose. Furthermore, the article states that "A crowd that gathered to protest a planned march Saturday by a white supremacist group turned violent, throwing baseball-sized rocks at police and vandalizing vehicles and stores, including setting a bar on fire." This implies to me that the Nazi protesters were not acting in any way violent (simply making use of their rights to speech), it was actually those OPPOSING their ability to voice their views who were acting violently.

I understand that the expression of those opinions can be incendiary, and it's easy (and justifiable) to hate those views. But I'm not going to condemn their right to express them when they haven't done anything else worng. Peaceful protest, whatever the views, I've never had a problem with. In my opinion, if you don't like what they have to say, ignore 'em.

As opposed to, say, Brazilians or Brits who only riot over really important issues like the outcomes of soccer games.

What pisses me off the most is that the fucking cops protected them!

Could you imagine being a African American or Hispanic police officer that was assigned to protect these guys?

Having to hide behind the state's power in order to do something that hurts the health and welfare of a neighborhood is pathetic. The only reason these riots happened was because the cops protected these guys!

Free speech and equal protection under the law exist for everyone. The right to riot, no matter how much you are taunted, exists for no one. Yes, Nazis are bad, but why in God's name should their presence cause a bar to be set on fire? There is no justification for that.

It's like walking up to single african american, calling them the "n" word, then being surprised if they guy socks you in the face.

If you can't take responsibility for the words you speak, then you shouldn't speak them.

If someone walked up to you and call you an asshole and you punch him, I wouldn't say he didn't deserve it. However, I would also not say you don't deserve to be arrested, because physically assaulting someone is illegal.

Let's say it's 1967 and you're marching through a conservative, warhawk town with a sign that says "Yankee Go Home!" and the residents there consider you a traitor to America and its values and they rough you up. Are they justified in doing so?

If someone walked up to me and said that my race deserved to die, that they were willing to do it themselves by encouraging it politically, and that thus myself, my family, my lovers, and my world deserved annihilation. I would be complacent to war and hate crimes if I DIDN'T do something about i.

Some things are worth fighting for, legal or not.

But your right, it would be illegal. Point taken. There's a difference though between the words "asshole", and "your race does not deserve to live". but maybe that's just me.
