I fucking dread the remake with Cage. That movie was a product of its time, what with the music and cast. They'll never even come close.

No remake has ever come close to their originals, I really dont know why they bother, might aswell just make a completely new movie
surreal.

Now the sam ramii wants to remake EVIL DEAD but not direct or write it......why bother......Evil Dead doesn't need to be remade skull

Tremors [I was very young and only heard it through a door, it shit me up about walking on grass for a week]
Deathwatch
The Shining
Wickerman
Ichi the Killer
The Old Boy

[Asian extreme movies make you feel bad after watching them so they count as horror for me]

Not Texas Chainsaw Massacre [I fucking hate it, its really shit] thats both original and remake

Good movie but the bald ice-cream man and the effeminate little kid showing up in sequel after sequel ruined the original for me--i did rainbow once and watched it with the home theater cranked up though--highly recommended!!!

I sat through the entirety of the remake. It's a testament to the power of Jessica Biel's breasts.

i am super opinionated on the subject...
so in no order, because it would hurt my brain to try and figure out which order i wanted them in....

the exorcist -
great imagery, great photography, very ballsy for it's time
nightmare on elm street-
highly original concept, and a scary one at that. a killer who attacks you when you're asleep? awesome. and i will -never- forget seeing the body roll around in blood on the ceiling.
poltergeist- mainly the first - but the follow ups were creepy too
"god is in his holy temple" is all i need to say
hellraiser-
awesome visually and a great concept, not to mention excellent characters
psycho-
one of my favorite character movies ever. seriously. very simple and yet very effective.
freaks (1930s)
the sheer fact that this movie got made means it should be on this list
henry: portrait of a serial killer-
though "horror" as a catagory might be debatable.. some of the more graphic scenes from this movie are permenantly etched in my brain. the fact that it is so realistic makes it terrifying.
cat people -
the original from the 40's as well as the remake in the 80s. great symbolism and concept. i can watch the remake over and over and it never bores me.
frankenstein -
and i wanted to include bride of frankenstein, but i'll stick with this
the shining. it has such "stand out" scenes, and just an all around amazing feeling to it. really brings you in.

runners up -
28 days later -
adding a bit of plague factor (which is terrifying) to the ole "zombie" bit works well. also, cillian murphy covered in blood while pushing his thumbs through someone's eyes and screaming is..for some reason.. one of the hottest things ever.
eraserhead -
maybe it's not a horror movie per say but i have nightmares about it
the others -
made me feel like i was watching an older horror movie. not too many flashy effects, but very effective and suspensefull

also... any movie by william castle and/or with vincent price starring
of the recent castle film remakes i enjoyed house on haunted hill the most. 13th ghost was pretty good as well.

I seriously loved this movie. When the fuck are we going to get a DVD release of this? This and Cemetery Man (Delmorte Delamore) are long overdue for DVD.

Black Christmas
It's Alive - saw these on a double bill at the drive in when I was about 8 years old and it scared the crap out of me

Kieslowski's Decalogue - Thou Shalt Not Kill - probably the most horrifying, brutal killing ever filmed

Phantasm - kick ass!
