The whole thing about wether animals should be subjected to suffering is a bit skewed IMO. We don't inflict suffering on other humans (or shouldn't, according to society's rules) because if everyone inflicted it on each other for their own gain, everyone would be suffering and society wouldn't work, because the fact that you can inflict suffering on people means other people can make you suffer. Can animals make us suffer? Not really (beyond giving us CJD or whatever ). So why shouldn't we make them suffer if it suits our gains? Or am I just showing a bit of a sociopathic streak?
